I just completed WC1 (Kilrathi Saga version from PC Gamer 7/2000). I didn't
get a chance to save my game, which means that there's no way to transfer the
character from the finished game to Secret Missions. Am I missing something
here?
Do you get anything from transferring a character at different points in
WC1? Or is "transfer character" there just to make sure you've played the
game at all and it doesn't really matter where you transfer from?

I did never actually complete the KS version of WC1, but assuming there is no change towards the dos version - no there is no possibility to save after the last mission. Whatever rewards you get here (the pewter planet for example) are lost. > Do you get anything from transferring a character at different points in > WC1? You can even start the expansions with a fresh character. The only thing you get is that you keep your medals and your killscore. Nothing of in game relevance. -- Ever wonder what the speed of lightning would be if it didn't zigzag? [Delete the karl after the @ to avoid my spam trap]
