Wow,

I didnt know it was going to be like this. Its pretty cool! Only thing is I
wish they put more CGI cut scenes in because some of the in-game cutscenes
are amazing in scope and what they were trying to do. Well either CGI or
real filmed actors like Wc4, which would have rocked my world even more. :-)
Also noticed a rather famous Wing Commander actor voicing Tobias. ;-) Took
me a while to get used to the mouse driven game-play but now I prefer it! I
like the new way of using auto-pilot, it makes so much sence.

The only thing I dislike is that aside from the story enhancing plot, people
you talk to generally say the same damn things everywhere you go no matter
who you talk to! It gets quite comical at times. Why are people that hardly
know you so willing to spread rumours??? Weird. Also, the main guy is a
little unlikable, he's such a smart ass... Anyway, just thought Id share my
thoughts.

btw, Im running XP and have tried every DX sound setting there is but the
FMV's picture (not ingame) still jerks around a bit, however the sound is
fine. Anyone know why?

The CGI is limited by economics.

There is an active on-line fan group and lots of information.

The game needs a true autopilot (push the button, emerge at the next waypoint
without taking half an hour of real time flying there sort of autopilot) and a
bunch of other code that was cut from the game.

In order to make it fit on one CD they cut a lot of clutter, and cut out a lot
of unused code.

So, the virtual HUD displays, etc., all got cut as well as the multiple levels
of AI for your autopilot.

One bad set of CGI left unedited (a couple characters with genitals still
enabled), but nicely done all in all.

Oh, only half of the scenarios made it into the final game.

I kind of liked Trent, though his dialog when talking to fixers was pretty bad.

I enjoyed the game, but lacked the energy to do a walkthrough/guide after I
finished.

Sure I know, im just saying it would have made it amazing. Its not like the
game design really required computer generated characters.

Actually I really liked their new autopilot stuff.

Like what sort of stuff?!

Aww damn. Why didnt they just release an expansion! didnt the game do too
well or something?

...genitals?

Im beginning to like him much more now actually yea.

I'll post something from something I wrote on a Freelancer forum when asked
what "little things" bugged me about it:

"Little things like....

...the jobs arent nearly as varied enough for continued replay value. Its
just go there, shoot that type missions. They dont even have escort
missions. It would have been nice to have jobs from traders even.

...and how about the fact that they only bothered to make about 7 character
models (at the most) for every single human in every single frickin part of
the universe! What were they thinking?! And if that wasn't bad enough they
all say the same damn things! They have no individuality whatsoever. And why
is everyone such a damn gossip, so willing to tell a perfect stranger they
just met the latest "rumor"?

... and I may be wrong about this, but is it really true that the game wont
let you level up until you complete a story mission? It thats true, then
you're forced to doing what the game wants you to do instead of what YOU
want to do, which is the very thing they should have been trying avoid.

... Why is it you can only do that race course thing once, and only in the
story mission? Doesn't sound very open-ended to me. And its worse, because
at the end of the in- game cinematic after the race the guy even says you
can 'come back and race' with him! Why shouldn't I be able to do that, in a
'do anything be anyone game' that proclaims proudly on the back that I can
'create my own story'?

I could go on and on about this stuff, but these things only bug me this
much because they are mostly minor points but so VERY crucial stuff that if
the developers addressed seriously could potentionally skyrocket the game
play value not to mention replay value.

Dont think Im trashing the game though, Im actually praising it because it
really the best space sim Ive ever played and I do love it really, its just
stuff like this could have been even better than it was, with what seems
like not that much extra work."
