I saw a copy of the Privateer 2 collector's edition at a local used software shop the other day for $5, and I was wondering how possible it might be to run Privateer 1 and 2 on modern systems. I have a P4 1.6GHz system with Win XP, an SB Audigy, and a GeForce 2GTS. I also have a backup system (not hooked up), which is a 200 MHz Pentium. Short of buying emulation software or repartitioning any harddrives, would I have any prayer of getting either of the games to run on either system? Thanks Patrick (PS: Is the Privateer 1 included in the collector package the same as that orignally released? How rare is the collector set, anyway?)

I don't think you should have much of a problem running either one on the P200, assuming it has a genuine Sound Blaster card and you have a copy of DOS (or WIN98SE) lying around.. Mattias

I have Win95 on the older system...I don't have 98 or a legacy DOs on it, and I don't much feel like putting a new operating system on just to get a game to run. I mucked with DOS enough getting WC 2 and 3 to run on my old 496 back in the day. Speed isn't the problem, Win XP probably is for the DOS version. P1 can only run within PURE DOS or a very good DOS emulator. Even then the chances of having sound with a PCI soundcard aren't too good. SB Live seems to work with some hassle, others I dunno at all. -- I don't work here. I'm a consultant. Hi! I have the Privateer 2: Darkening running fine on a (Windows 95) Pentium 200 Mhz MMX, 4Mb graphic card with an analogue joystick. And it's also running on my (Windows 98) 550 Mhz Amd K6-2, 32 Mb Geforce 2 graphic card and USB joystick MS Precision 2. I think your 200Mhz would do fine with Privateer 2. For Privateer1 I don't know. Perhaps Message "Privateer" of 2003-02-04 04:59 has an answer!? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- "Patrick Thompson" <p.h.th...@worldnet.att.net> skrev i meddelandet news:JTV2a.50924$zF6.3430339@bgtnsc04-news.ops.worldnet.att.net... > I saw a copy of the Privateer 2 collector's edition at a local used software > shop the other day for $5, and I was wondering how possible it might be to > run Privateer 1 and 2 on modern systems. It is a nightmare to get to run in comparision to WC2... -- WOMAN.ZIP ... No documentation, but fun to UNZIP! [Delete the karl after the @ to avoid my spam trap]
