Add-on: Denotes a commercial package that enhances an existing game (additional levels, race tracks, etc.) or requires an existing game to run (Quake "total conversions", etc.). Part of the Other Attributes category That Moby Games definition for an add on. Moby games is a site that has cataloged pretty much every game ever made. It includes things like reviews as well as pictures of the actual box. You are partly right, an add on CAN require an existing game... but it doesn't have to. It can just enhance a game, and it can most definitely NOT require an existing game. I can think of add on's that didnt require the game to play. Interstate 76's Nitro Pack said right on the label it was an add on but it DID NOT require you to have the original game. It was installed and played right from the cd you bought. I just installed the game without Interstate 76 on my hard drive to test it out and I am right. Also Interstate Nitro Riders. It is called a "stand alone add on" at moby. http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,2287/ Here is another one right from Mobys web site, a game that was marketed as "stand alone" but they dont seem to think it was. This is relevant just to show you that it is not a "case closed" thing. There IS debate, and your attitude of how can anyone possibly believe this is an add on is one cocky stupid attitude. http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,684/ Thats "Oh No More Lemmings". Marketed as a stand alone game... but it wasn' t.... http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,1822/ And theres Wing Commander: Secret Ops itself. It "Continues the story of Wing Commander Prophecy". "Secret Ops uses essentially the same engine as Prophecy. You can fly upgraded versions of the Prophecy fighters equipped with some new weapons. The story is no longer told with videos but with cut scenes using the game engine. " Now granted this description can sort of help your case considering they dont out and out say "Although marketed as a stand alone product, its still an add on". But the language sure speaks it. Yull also notice that for some games like Wing Commander Prophecy itself there are alternate tittles for them. Wing Commander Prophecies alternate title is "Wing Commander 5". http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,486/ Wing Commander: Secret Ops has no such alternate title. And here is the last straw http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,2659/ Right there. For Wing Commander Prophecy Gold. Quote "This "gold" package contains Wing Commander Prophecy and the "Secret Ops" expansion pack. The Secret Ops pack was previously only available as downloadable missions off of the 'Web." It is time that you quit this stupid cocky "I am right and there is no debate about it" attitude of yours. THERE IS MOST DEFINITELY DEBATE! IT IS OUT THERE!!! People call that game an expansion pack. The only thing that is certain is that there IS doubt. It is not a "I cant believe people think this". I can believe that you think its a stand alone game, but how dare you not see my point. How dare you. There is debate, thank you, and goodnight!
