I just started play WC2 over the modem and the first person I played build up stuff quicker than I have ever seen like in 10 minutes he had dragons and death Knights. Now we had the code turned off are there any code out there that still work even if you had the code off. Jay

I had a friend of mine pull this on me on my first network game of WC2. What you do is send a peon/peasant to go build something, then you send a bunch more over to where the first guy is building the item, and you have them "repair" the item being built. The SOB was strafing my home base with 4 griffins about 20 minutes after we started the game with only 1 peon/peasant apiece and NOTHING else. After figuring out during the game what he was doing (after it was WAY to late to affect the eventual outcome), the other three of us concurred and we yanked the thinnet cable out of a NIC board on one of our machines bringing his monster-romp to a crashing halt. I don't have a problem with this technique of building stuff quickly - I have a problem with him pulling this on two other people (myself included) who weren't in the know, especially since he already had an experience advantage over us (we didn't even know what the different buildings did, or the various strengths and weaknesses of the different units - in fact, we'd had to start over once earlier because I had my peon build my stronghold in a little nook formed by a forest and wound up trapping my peon in the space between the forest and the stronghold. And of course, I didn't have enough gold to generate another peon). --Noid

I wouldn't necessarily call this "cheating." You pay for this repair the same as you pay for any other repair -- he did have to spend twice as many resources to get the buildings faster. It's definitely unbalanced in the fact that you can get buildings for twice the cost at a rate of Time = OriginalCost / NumberOfPeons. (Loose translation: The maximum cost is a fixed number, while the amount of time to build varies only with the number of people you throw at it. But wait! While those peons are building, they cant be collecting, thus incurring the "loss" of what they would have been collecting in that albeit brief timespan. Okay. This just went off the deep end. Mea culpa.) As far as pulling this on a couple of newbies, I'd have to agree that it's outright slimy. Definitely something I'd consider as more of an advanced tactic to be used against, say, four computer opponents. I sincerely hope you pulled his ethernet connection and slapped him firmly about the head and shoulders with it. Oh. And don't feel too bad about building yourself into a corner. I've finished both sides of the game and played innumerable multiplayer bouts and _still_ manage to get outsmarted by trees occasionally. (Especially in the middle of the night.) Happy Carnage, - J.

I don't think he was doing this because it we only start with one peon/peasant and just above the amount of resources to build a town hall. I have timed myself it takes atleast 2 minutes to build the town hall and every upgrade needed for it and you have to have a castle/Stronghold to get dragons/griffins. What is really funny if he wasn't cheating is he can kick me and my friends butt but he can't beat the game and the computer doesn't even think like a human. Well hoipefully I got a plan that will stomp his ass into the ground. Jay

Anyone else?

It takes more money and resources, but the building gets completed faster. (rest of post deleted)
