Figured some here might find my nameplate fix compilation useful - I
just posted it on the official forums to a thread full of people
unhappy with the changes (yeah I hate them too), but I've got them
fairly functional now:
----
I've mostly managed to get it working how I'm used to, with a lot of
tweaking. To stop them sticking at the top/bottom of the screen when
the mob is offscreen I used this, which certainly seems to have made
it behave fairly close to normal, I won't claim perfection but it's a
big improvement: http://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20747644788
" /run SetCVar("nameplateMaxDistance", 100)
SetCVar("nameplateOtherTopInset", -1)
SetCVar("nameplateOtherBottomInset", -1)ReloadUI()
Change the 100 to whatever you want, it's just a max distance
variable for healthplate visibility. I believe 40 is the default."
To show names on nameplates all the time (that really should've been
an option rather than just tied to display of names) I found
http://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/nameplatenames which seems to do
exactly what I wanted.
And to get mob lvls back on the nameplates (why on earth remove useful
information??), I'm using
http://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/improved-nameplates
So yeah, 2 addons and a script just to make it function vaguely
normally. I like much of this patch but the UI changes are a serious
downgrade.

Ouch, that'd drive me mad, maybe worth disabling some addons to see if one of them's overruling you and forcing them to stay on somehow? If you can narrow it down then you might be able to find the setting that's broken it. Things like AdvancedInterfaceOptions can interact with them, as well as regular nameplate addons, maybe one of them is breaking it :-/ Mine certainly works as normal, I've just been toggling friendly nameplates to confirm my suspicion that the script I posted for positioning needs to be run per character, not per account, that's going to be annoying! At least it does persist through logout; once it's done it's done for good.

OTOH, it's pretty hard to login to the game at all. First of all, it crashes often and the only way to get it to work is to remove the config.wtf file. Second, Battle.net now takes minutes to launch. Third, the login process itself is very slow. Fourth, my BM hunter is now a total face-roll class with zero (and I do mean ZERO) skill required. I logged in, set my talents, and then simply hit 2, 3, 4, 5 at random and threw in a 1 whenever my focus was at max. (Dire beast, kill command, Beastial Wrath, Volley, and Cobra Shot on 1). I was #5 in the raid on DPS. For the majority of the time, I was not actually looking at the screen. If I had one of those game pads I could trivially setup a repeating script and walk away, except the game no longer switches targets. -- 'I warn you, dragon, the human spirit is-' They never found out what it was, or at least what he thought it was, although possibly in the dark hours of a sleepless night some of them might have remembered the subsequent events and formed a pretty good and gut-churning insight, to whit, that one of the things sometimes forgotten about the human spirit is that while it is, in the right conditions, noble and brave and wonderful, it is also, when you get right down to it, only human.

Nope. It was as dumbass new setting in Interface options under Names where a whole bunch of stupid useless shit was turned on. I turned it all off. Things are better. They made Beastmaster about the most boring possible class to play. I assume with Runestrike (Legion relic ability) I will have to add one more button to the boring as fuck rotation. Oh look, Kill COmmand. Dire Beast. Cobra shot. cobra shot. aspect of the something. repeat, basically at random. Pick up loot. The best is far dumber and dies all the damn time now, and you get ONE spec that applies to all pets, so no more getting out a tank pet to save the Raid. -- 'You make us want what we can't have and what you give us is worth nothing and what you take is everything and all there is left for us is the cold hillside, and emptiness, and the laughter of the elves.'

Good to hear, didn't think that stuff would affect it but hey, the UI is all a mess now so anything's possible. Not a fan of the changes there, at least it's mostly fixable with addons but shouldn't need to be. >They made Beastmaster about the most boring possible class to play. Cobra shot. cobra shot. aspect of the >something. repeat, basically at random. Pick up loot. I find talenting extra buttons can help with that, I don't know BM well but played with it a bit on beta and took Murder of Crows, which added a bit of interest, especially solo where it resets the cd pretty much every time. My little gnome hunter is BM but as she's only lvl 22 at present she's in 2-shot territory anyway (with NO heirlooms, must be one-shot if you use those, given a crit Cobra Shot is a one-shot kill even for me...), I'm hoping it slows down a bit with time as killing stuff so fast is just boring to me, I prefer fights to have some actual content rather than just hitting a random button and watching the mob fall over. >The best is far dumber and dies all the damn time now, and you get ONE >spec that applies to all pets, so no more getting out a tank pet to save >the Raid. Yeah that's irritating, seems like there's no actual point to having more than one pet with that, just use the same one for everything. Ok, kinda a return to vanilla where I always stuck with the same pet (he was my "Best Friend", of course I used him!), but I liked the idea of different pets having different strengths and switching pet to change the toolset, rather than just changing talents.
