Is it worth bothering with the Legendary Cloak at this point?

.... or will it be replaced by a 'crying green' next month?

The ilvl 616 cloak is pretty nifty. I finally got it on my lock,
but not yet on my pally. He's still stuck at 'The Thunder Forge':
he's actually managed to get the weapon to appear, but not
live long enough to finish the encounter.

If I finished that today, there's a good chance I'd get the
legendary before the expansion. I'd have to run at least two
weeks of LFRs, and run a number of other encounters.

But is it worth it? Will I be replacing it with a green or
blue in November? Anyone on the beta have input? If I'm going
to be replacing it by the time or soon after I hit lvl 100,
it may not be worth the trouble.

It'll last quite some time, on beta I'm not lvl 100 yet but at 97 I
have average ilvl of 597, and ptuting that into context, two of my
items are crafted 640 epics, so if you can't craft cloaks (not sure
which profession does those), you won't replace it till lvl 100; maybe
with a blue (think those are about 630), probably with an epic as you
may well decide the proc is worth 16 ilvl difference to a blue - at
least, assuming it works much the same at 100 as it does now, I
haven't heard that it'll diminish anyway.

It won't be replaced for a long while, probably not by a green or blue
at all in initial Wod.
If you have the time you could look at it as time spent now leaving more
time doing other things early on in Wod.

From what I've heard it should be BiS until level 100. But they wont
have any item bonuses.

Correction, on logging in I found my numbers were mixed up, I'm 579
ilvl, and just dinged lvl 98. Currently wearing a 567 cloak... yeah,
legendary will make it to 100 for sure, replaced with blue at worst,
likely epic :-)

Oh and I love finding random familiar faces dotted around in Draenor,
Milly Osworth was a surprise, that took me back all the way to my
first ever character, and Northshire Abbey :-)

For those curious, my pally completed The Thunder Forge this afternoon
(after being stuck there for what feels like a year). He soloed Nalak
easily, and is now on the hunt for Titan Runestones (as I type, he's
in queue for an LFR raid).

I'm concerned that when the patch drops on Tuesday, the 'Gaze of the
Black Prince' buff will go away. With it, you can get 5 or 6 TRs a
week. Without it, you're guarenteed 2, with a possibility of more.
I'd hate to be one stone short when the expansion drops, ending the
questline.

Anyone know if I can double up by running both LFR and regular?

Yay, congrats!

Afraid not, it's one chance a week, regardless of mode. It's possible
that chance might be higher in higher difficulties, but I'm not sure
even that applies, as I imagine Blizz wouldn't want people not doing
their regular runs while waiting for a shot at a higher one.

Reached 100 yesterday with overall ilvl of 594, wearing a 575 cloak
btw. Admittedly, that was by questing through each zone in turn, so I
hadn't done the highest zone at that point, it'll presumably have
higher lvl rewards! I believe it's fairly easy to get a 630 blue at
100, but likely down to personal preference if you replace your
legendary with it or not, suspect I may not! LFR gear looks like ilvl
640 in Highmaul, 650 in Blackrock Foundry, from a quick glance at
wowhead, that'll be the level where replacing is certain I reckon.

Sure hope the 40-50 ilvls makes a good difference btw, 2%
haste/mastery/everything else and 9% crit (including the inbuilt 5%
class buff) is paaaainful :-P Although at least now I got a personal
tank from my garrison, that is just incredible the difference it
makes, note to self, use the barracks to level with on live and stop
trying to be clever by building something else!

If you could provide some hints on good use of the garrison for
levelling I'd be quite grateful - my pally tends to level as ret,
the holy spec is more background these days. My lock already has
a personal tank.

The Thunder Forge was a real playing skill check for me, by far the
hardest individual fight I'd had in game; I learned a lot about
boosting my dps on both toons from that, both from gearing, and from
better rotation. When I started I was probably pulling about 50k dps,
by the time I actually completed it, about 120.

One thing that really bugged me was how difficult it was simply to
*get* to the event; fly all the way west to Shado-Pan Garrison,
portal to the island, ride overland to where Wrathion hangs out.
Then fight several waves of nasty trash in the courtyard, followed
by a long tough fight in the first phase in the room. It took 15-20
minutes just to get to the point at which I was stuck - the final phase.

The only saving grace was that once I got there, there was a small area
just inside the door where after resurrection, I could mount, repair,
eat, and buff up before trying the final phase again.

I really, really disliked this quest.

Fwiw, I finished the 4 LFR raids which yield Titan Runestones, with 7. I have to get another 5. If I'm correct that two bosses are guaranteed drops, it's possible that I'll get the cloak just before the expansion drops and closes off the quest line. We'll see.

A lot of it's down to personal preference, the personal tank I
mentioned is a feature where you can select one of your "followers"
(who normally perform missions for you on their own) as a "bodyguard"
(some come with the bodyguard trait, which lets you select them this
way), and their spec determines what they'll do with you, apparently.
I've only got a prot pally NPC with the bodyguard trait, and she's
perfect for me as a Disc priest, made a huge difference for me, but
I've heard there are dps and healer followers available as well, so if
you get one which complements your spec, it can make a big difference.

The above only works if you have a Barracks at lvl 2; you start your
garrison with a barracks, but I, being clever (so I thought), swapped
it out for something else, not having realised how useful the
bodyguards would be! You can't get the building to lvl 2 for a few
lvls anyway, but in the earlier lvls existing gear carries you, it
gets a bit tougher at higher lvls when your secondary stat ratings
have decayed down to hardly anything!

Most other garrison things don't affect levelling too much, I just got
professions buildings and eventually settled on a lumber mill (having
been through most the alternatives) for a medium building. You can't
make any building lvl 3 until you're 100 (and most require an
achievement to be completed first even then), so don't do what I did
and look at the bonuses lvl 3 buildings give and get the building for
those; look at lvl 1 instead, maybe lvl 2 ;-) You can always change
later on, they're entirely swappable, only limited by resources, and
I've got plenty of those.

Another helpful thing btw is each zone has an "outpost", which gives
you a garrison buff, and some extra features, plus a different set of
quests, some give a lot different (Gorgrond in particular, most of the
zone changes depending which outpost building you chose), some only a
couple, but it means a bit of variety when you level an alt and pick a
different building. Mainly it doesn't change much as the buff as
fairly similar, I'll say for Spires of Arak get the smuggler's outpost
though, the vendor you can summon gives some really nice buffs and
even sells a 28-slot bag, which is VERY useful if you didn't have a
maxed tailor (I never got that recipe!), it's unique, but one is still
good!

Btw you don't have to spend hours on your garrison if you're not that
interested, once it's set up in your first few quests in SMV/FFR, just
drop in between zones to pick up any useful quests you've been given
(it gives the breadcrumbs to each zone...but you get a breadcrumb from
the previous zone to go back there and check in anyway). I loot my
mine and herb garden every day, because hey, free stuff, but you don't
have to even do that if you're not interested, most of it's entirely
optional, although you'll probably want to pick up the Apexis Shard
daily there at lvl 100, since the shards are the main currency for
pretty much everything!

Wow, nice progress! Amazing the difference class makes as I really
didn't have much trouble with that fight, it must just have suited
priest a lot better than paladin, since I'm certainly not the most
skilled of players, I'd have expected you to do better than me, since
you sound like you're a better/more knowledgeable player than I am!

The expansion is still another four or five weeks away, isn't it? Plenty
of time to get your cloak.

Yeah, probably. I have 7 TRs at this point - at worst it will take
me 3 weeks to get them (though LFR may be a ghosttown).

Then I'll have to find a group that wants to do the Celestials, while
the new stuff is all around them...

Shouldn't be too hard, the new group finder will be in, so you can use
that if nobody on your realm wants a shot (and people will be on the
isle, since Ordos will be open for non-cloak people for the first
time, so I'm sure at least some will bother with the Celestials while
they pass by)

Today I did my first post-drop Titan Runestone runs. If you recall, I
was concerned that with the end of the Black Prince's buff, I would take
up to 3 weeks to gather them all.

In fact, I picked up the 5 I needed off of 6 boss encounters, none of
which were guarenteed drops. Others I chatted with in raid reported
similar results. The drop rate is now *very* high.

If you have toons on any step of the legendary cloak quest, it may
still be acheivable.
