Yes the AI is actually smart and the Fog of war helps too. Here are some
of the of the nice features I was impressed by.

I was playing a live human opponent over the modem. I placed a recon
blimp at a stratgic point. My opponent sent out a war party of about 6
guys, including some archers. THey came upon my blimp and of course
attacked it. I got notified and by the time I got to the scene my blimp
was already taking evasive action. He was moving away from the danger.
So all i had to do was click on him and send him somewhere safe and he
survived. In WC1 or C&C he would have been sitting there stupidly on top
of the middle the the attackers and I wouldn't have been able to save him.
ANother example of this. I'm playing a modem game with 1 human and 2
computer opponents. I have a fleet of 3 battleships, 4 destroyers, and a
sub gaurding an oil rig. The human computer opponent sent two Gryphon
Rider (a guy flying an Eagle) over to attack my ships. I was somewhere
else doing somethign and got notified. When I got there my ships were
moving around. The computer AI was already moving my destroyers over to
attack the threat and moving my sub and battleships away from danger.
Subs and battleships can't attack this air unit but the destroyer can.
This is SO COOL!

As for the computer providing a challange.... My friend and I decided to
play as allies against the computer in a modem game. We are good WC
players so we decided to play us against 3 computer opponents just to
give the computer a chance. We hoped they would team up. Well to make
a long story short, they did and kicked our butts! We were playing as
human in some battle of the seas scenario.

Warcraft 2 is a total blast! The only time i've had this much fun with a
game is the first time I played doom deathmatch. Nothing else even
compares. The options given for multiplayer games are great. The
computer builds its town and units and provides a real challange. I
don't know if it cheats, and actually I dont' care because the result
is fun. I mean whatever combination they used it works great and is a
lot of fun. The computer is not overwelmingly hard but it is
challanging. This game is GREAT!

Excellent job Blizzard!
