Stolen, lost, broken, 0-day, doesn't help for the price.

for a phone I prefer one that I don't have to match wits with, too
senile to remember to be smart I suppose.

Depends what you want and what you are prepared to pay.
For a phone I just want it to work , do phone calls and sms , an alarm
clock, calendar alarm/reminder , utility light and not have to worry
about charge.
People with smart phones first thing they do is look for a power socket.

6 years old, scratched to hell, dropped hundreds of times, run over by
cars and trucks a few times, dropped in concrete and oil.
6 weeks battery life when out of cell tower range, with a new $20
battery. 2-4 weeks with a bit of use. $49 . Nobody on facebook cares or
will know what I had for breakfast and I don't care.

I can always borrow some genius' smartphone, always so happy to show it
off :-) although they always seem to be breaking, low on charge and are
on their third in 3 years.
