UT3 on PS3

I got an import copy of UT3 on PS3, US distribution imported to the UK.
Having bought this in good faith from a high street store I find that I
cannot connect to any of the UK servers or play on-line with anyone on my
friends list. I get the error message " package core is not downloadable"

I took said game back to shop to replace for a UK version only to be told in
no uncertain terms to "get stuffed", having not kept the all important
receipt!"

Is this a common problem amongst imported games?, as this is the first I
have purchased. Also, will a PS3 patch be released to combat this?

Cheers

PC version of UT3? It was released ages ago before the console
versions.

<ahem> I think a more accurate statement is the console version was released
to the PC ages ago :)~

BTW, have you guys read the forums lately? Modders are having a hell of a
time doing their thing because so much is hard coded, all the way down to
skins and voicepacks. PC port of a console if ever there was one.

I stand corrected. :)

I quit visiting Epic's forums long ago. Unless your post consists of
"Epic rocks and I would love to have their babies" then your post gets
deleted and you get banned.

Man, you got it easy. Correction for me usually involves some sort of blunt
force trauma from a frying pan or rolling pin.

Yes, there is a real undercurrent of resentment brewing. I can't blame
people. It's a real mess they have created. Truthfully I bought UT3, played
a while on the few servers with real people then uninstalled.

Yup. I uninstalled 2K4, installed UT3, hated it, uninstalled UT3 and
eventually reinstalled 2K4. The only decent ONS servers out there
these days are Torlan only, but it's a great way to kill an hour or
so.

I chat with a guy who helps me learn scripting. I asked him "You want my
key?" He said "Sure. I'll try to find someone who will use it." He had to
ask around. That right there tells me all I need to know.

BTW anyone want the install DVD and ed DVD?

I remember the frustration the first and only time I tried to install a
user map on ut3, before the forums had guides on how to do it.

Completely different to any other UT, paths are randomly invented and
useless, and very untuitive (to the player, what's cooked and uncooked?
Why do they need to know?) No package handling system like .umod.

The best bit though was that map was a rewrite of CTF-Andaction. A map
famous because it was small - only 48kb for ut99. Under UT3 the same map
was 17 *megabytes*. Okay - the mapper got carried away with events and
textures but it was still just a box!

I opened the editor to just take a look, and its quickly become something
that no normal level person can use. Each editor has become increasingly
complex for no real reason. I have a book here: "Mastering Unreal", great
book for learning beginning mapping skills. It weighs in at nearly 1000
pages. How many chapters on UScript? None. How many mentions? One: Use the
built in editor to modify code.

It's all just too much. Release an editor "lite" that a majority of people
can use and if they need the more robust tools, let them use (and learn) the
full editor.
