UT3 suffered from two problems...

1.  Rush job, just like you say.  It was obviously pushed out the door
to catch holiday sales.  But then *that* problem was compounded by...

2.  The success of GoW.  All the talent at Epic games was siphoned off
to work on Gears.  UT3 got the second string talent and it shows.

It's going to be a couple of patches before some of the most glaring
issues are addressed.  But it's not just the clients that are
suffering.  I've talked to a couple of server admins and they also are
faced with a ton of problems.  An emergency beta patch for servers is
supposed to go out next week.  I haven't heard about a client patch
yet, but it's sorely needed.
