Rainbow Six had some missions that would fail if you were detected or guards were alerted. That Rainbow Six and sequels had some missions that would fail if you were detected or guards were alerted. Those were essentially "no-trace" missions. They weren't much fun though (especially the first sequel), mostly because when you failed you had to start the mission from the beginning, which got extremely tedious after several days of being unable to get past the mission. It also wasn't very Thief-y in that there weren't many good hiding places, no secret entrances or crawling through the attic, and you would be instantly spotted if you leaned around a corner to see if you could make a dash to the next building. Theoretically you had the tools necessary in a heartbeat sensor that didn't help much since guards outside its range could spot you, and a second team mate who could spot for you but was hard to manage as a single player. But at least the designers made the attempt. -- Darin Johnson
