Thank you ver much for this clarification. I saw and
dl'd the recent rash of new missions posted ala:
         http://thief.math.uh.edu/missions
and have been going through them rather dismissively - This
calls for a new consideration that I'll address in more detail
         below.

Just played through it and I did enjoy it very much for it's
novelty factor. However - this and quite a few others need to
have an entirely separate category - That of NON mission, or
something similar to differentiate them from what should be
expected in a "Thief Mission" - Here's the short list - many
       likely the restricted-size contest variety:

       Night's Recourse
       Throne Room
       Dream Slide
       Mind Master
       Akenaten's Tomb
       The Keeper's are Thirsty
(Including the one you mentioned above)

All could be said to be 'Well Built' - all have a novel or
uniquely interesting quality or feature, but all are missing
integral aspects of the Thief experience (tools, direction,
       plot etc)

I feel strongly that a new category should be created to honor
these in their proper light and to separate them from what most
have come to expect of a Thief mission. This would avoid such
confusion and disappointments and give this 'new' form an
adequate stage to be appreciated more fairly. - I believe that
the site builders/organizers would be doing the players and the
builder a great service by making this consideration.

AAARUGH.. Three buttons with a FOUR button combination??
(I must repeat my earlier exclamation - "I
MAKE time for FMs - I don't have time for games)
This is absurd - Why not two buttons with a five
button combination (?) with not even a hint at the
number of presses required - Just how long does
the builder expect me to stand there - like a chimp
at a typewriter - expecting the encyclopedia to
eventually manifest? - No, where the fun ends there
do I also. Certainly such a stone wall in the path
of logical progression for the player should have
                     been anticipated and avoided.

Hmmm.. I'm afraid you've tossed a wet blanket on a flame
long extinguished - I doubt I'll ever enter the vault and
chalk this one up to 'mission accomplished - by default'. ;]
Thanking you (yet again) ;] for your kind attendance in my
mission madness, and for all your consideration of the above.
