Pathetic game vs Czech Republic. Who is left in the grouping? Italy, which could be strong, but lots of turmoil has probably shaken them up a bit(they clobbered Ghana 2-0), and Ghana which isn't often worth mentioning, but who knows. At this point, Czech Republic looks strong enough to grab the winner spot in Group E, while if the US is lucky enough to beat Italy and Ghana, they still would only probably be able to get the runner up spot, putting them up against the winner of Group F who is almost certainly going to be Brazil. There's no way in hell USA is going to beat Brazil. So my prediction? USA manages to be runner-up in Group E only to be utterly slaughtered shortly after by Brazil. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go to fifa.com or ignore this post. :) As for other teams, Germany is looking pretty good, as is Mexico (though Iran is probably a weaker team than costa rica). Brazil is of course Brazil. -- "No I'm saying that I'm a cow dung." - Stephen "Suupernuubie" Ung "Eat a bag of hell." - Cyric The Mad "Yes - I need red hot gay loving" - LTP MSN:ktw...@hotmail.com (BUT DON'T SEND E-MAIL!) In article <62dr82163a6lqn3pi...@4ax.com>, but only after serious contemplation, Zealot The Crazy Lui <ktwilson9999@NOSPAM.comcast .net> put finger to keyboard and produced the following; >So my prediction? USA manages to be runner-up in Group E only to be >utterly slaughtered shortly after by Brazil. LOL If you think the US has any chance at all against Italy you're living in a *very* different world to the rest of us. :-} -- Cheers, Chas. "Reality leaves a lot to the imagination".

I think if the US team can get itself back together and put energy into the game rather than just doddling around like they did against Czech Republic, they have a chance against Italy. And even if Italy is runner up (I doubt they can handle Czech Republic), then *they* will be slaughtered by Brazil. Runner up in group E might as well have just been eliminated before the 16 round. -- "No I'm saying that I'm a cow dung." - Stephen "Suupernuubie" Ung "Eat a bag of hell." - Cyric The Mad "Yes - I need red hot gay loving" - LTP MSN:ktw...@hotmail.com (BUT DON'T SEND E-MAIL!) Also, don't forget that Czech Republic has some kickass players. Tomas Galasek (was captain of Ajax, Amsterdam last season), Grygera (also Ajax), and ofcourse Nedved (Juventus). They are not a joke. This is not some smalltime soccer country, world class players play there. > And even if Italy is runner up (I doubt they can handle Czech > Republic), then *they* will be slaughtered by Brazil. I agree, I think Czech Republic is going to beat Italy and Ghana, so I think they're going to get the winner spot without contest. Ghana put in a valiant first effort, but I don't think they'll be able to trounce the USA and they definitely won't be able to beat the Czech Republic barring some strange occurance. I'm thinking it will really come down to USA vs Italy to decide the runner up spot. We'll see what happens Saturday. >Well, I'm looking at Brazil right now, and other than that goal by Kaka, >I really haven't seen much yet. I just saw the game too... Brazil looked alright, but only 1 goal. Croatia put up a pretty good fight, but Brazil could've been better, I guess. I still don't think the US or Italy would be any kind of match for Brazil. I kinda got the impression that Brazil felt like they didn't have to try very hard, and croatia was putting everything they had into defending. -- "No I'm saying that I'm a cow dung." - Stephen "Suupernuubie" Ung "Eat a bag of hell." - Cyric The Mad "Yes - I need red hot gay loving" - LTP MSN:ktw...@hotmail.com (BUT DON'T SEND E-MAIL!) This is 2006 Italy, and Italy really isn't all that at the moment. Those goals against Ghana were pretty lucky if you ask me. And it should have been 2-1, because Ghana got cheated out of a penalty.

Fifa ranking means shit.... you get points for each win... so if you play 30 easy sides you get ranked high, but it doesn't say anything about your teams actual skills compared to countries who actually played against good sides... Italy's Luca Toni proved he can score against the best defenders in the world (golden boot winner last season)... and i don't exactly rate USA's defensive skills very high. Cheers, Low Profile

It's a benchmark, at least. In recent history, the USA have won from Costa Rica and Mexico, both competing in this final tournament. Brazil is #1 because they win most matches.... but that doesn't mean the table isn't rigged... USA mostly played 'easy opponents' ... Holland's B-team beat the mexican team with relative ease... and Costa Rica is not exactly considered a strong team. On that same list: Egypt is above Germany (vice world champions) and above Greece (european champions)... just to show how imba that list is. :P >> Italy's Luca Toni proved he can score against the best defenders in the >> world (golden boot winner last season)... and i don't exactly rate USA's >> defensive skills very high. > > Luca Toni is just one player. Italians are lethal, play as a real team, and they've set up their strikers many times... their only weakness is they tend to slow down/stop attacking once they have a 1 goal lead. And they beat the crap out of the dutch in a friendly (dutch are ranked #3 as you probably know) Cheers, Low Profile

Belgium. The fact that they have entered the final tournament says that they are strong enough to get there. And anything can happen in the final tournament. Who would have thought that Turkey would get to the semi-finals 4 years ago. Or South-Korea. > On that same list: Egypt is above Germany (vice world champions) and > above Greece (european champions)... just to show how imba that list is. > :P Germany may have been world champions, their current team isn't strong at all, and you probably know that. Uruguay has been world champion as well, and they are practically non-existent now. Greece was a fluke, which is proven by the fact that they are not even in this tournament. >> Luca Toni is just one player. He cannot win matches by himself. And they beat the crap out of the dutch in a friendly (dutch are > ranked #3 as you probably know) I have seen Italy vs Ghana and I have already commented on that. I was not impressed at all by Italy's play and Ghana even had more possession of the ball in the second half. Also, they got cheated out of a penalty. It was Ghana's first time in the world championships, and if Italy is that good, they would have won by a larger margin and with more dominance. Oh, and friendly games do not count. :D

It is not "my" Costa Rica. Big numbers? A 2 goal diff isn't that much. And the Germans did not perform poorly. I never said that. I said that their current team isn't that good, but a team can grow in a tournament. Look at Holland in the European Youth Championship. And a sidenote to that, van Basten is an idiot that he didn't bring Huntelaar along. > Besides, Germany will at least reach the semi finals... mark my words... I > mean... they're GERMANS, they always come far... no matter how crappy they > might have performed up till now :P (and yes, we dutch hate them for > that) > I agree Greece was a fluke, but so is the FIFA ranking system ;D You're probably right about the Germans. They have this chauvinistic attitude that makes them overcome huge barriers. It wasn't for nothing that one German in WW2 was as effective as TWO allied soldiers. >> Oh, and friendly games do not count. :D > > They do in the FIFA ranking :P Not in the tournament. :D What I meant was, van Basten used those friendly games to experiment a lot. And if you experiment, you're prepared, and often expect, to lose.

A typical World Championship accomplishment.Playing in such a tournament makes players and teams rise above themselves. Italy vs. Czech = good match I'd say.

The only reason you might have for believing that to be true is that you weren't alive the last time I made one. ;-} -- Cheers, Chas. "Reality leaves a lot to the imagination".
