I spent a long time writing that message and then it gets cancelled!!

The other messages were talking about the GRAPHICS....

Okay Duke3D was sprite based but so was Doom.... Did Doom have an
"interactive environment"? I think not..... DNForever will be far better
than any other game I've seen because it uses the Firestorm ( Unreal )
engine which has insanely brilliant graphics and it is well themed unlike
Quake or Unreal ( one minute your in Military looking places the next your
in Medieval places or space stations )

So yes we know what we are talking about..... Q3 will offer good lighting
effects and FOG.... I've seen fog in Ultim@te race and Turok 2 ( I admit
this was very bad with building suddenly APPEARING ) but will that be any
good in Multiplayer?

Q3 will have Melee weapons in it and is badly themed.... you dont need to
worry about that in Multiplayer but still it helps to make it more
realistic...

anyway thats my bit over with....

I think Q3 and DNF will both have their own merits.
DNF will probably be better though, because it will rule in single player
and multiplayer, and you won't need a beast machine to run it.

What are you talking about. You posted it a couple of weeks ago.

In so far as "hit a button and something happens" then yes. How was Duke any
different ?

1. How can an engine be well themed ?

2. Unreal's engine was a badly coded pile of shite. Considering what it is
doing, it should be able to run well on a Pentium II 233 with a half descent
graphics setup. You should not need a PII 450 with 128 meg + 12 meg graphics &
3d cards to be able to run it in 800*600 with no slowdown on the hard setting.

If you don't have to worry about the theme in a multiplayer game, then why
should it help to make it more realistic ?

Sorry about having a dig at your post dude, but Unreal really pissed me off.
After 2+ years of developement, it should have been a hell of a lot better.

Dylan.

We all believe you DukeN3D was a real crap!, not only because of the
tasteless plot but also of a rubish engine;
.....
The only thing, I like from DN was a bunch of colours and some cool
stuff.....(sometimes not very...)

Duke 4 ever will have nice plot and stuff, but the Engine (which one don't
no yet: Q2's or Unreal's?!?) would be absolete at the time game
arrives.(comparing to Q3's !!!!!!!!!!!!)

They've already decided on the Unreal engine and have publicly stated it
numerous times (one of the very things they'll say about the game).

Name one other game that had a truly interactive environment and I'll agree
with you......

But what does 'truly interactive' mean? I could say that The Hobbit
(ancient text adventure) had a truly interactive environment because you
could travel to lots of places and pick up lots of objects. In DN3D you
can just manipulate more objects/scenery than in most other games.

On a similar subject, did anyone see the level on Sin which had a valve,
and there was a sign saying "Do not play with valvE". If you pressed the
valve, the room exploded :)

Half-life has easily the most interactive enviroment I've ever seen in a
fps (yes I have played Duke). You get to operate soft drinks machines,
gun turrets (firing and directing them), microwaves, dryers, break
open/push crates, drive trains (including controlling speed and
direction), as well as all the standard buttons, lifts, light switches,
etc. Also, you can get NPCs to follow and/or help you, and you can (at
one point) launch a space rocket. That's pretty damn interactive as far
as I'm concerned :)
