In Doom3 I kept getting kicked to desktop. My cpu was running really hot then, I replaced it with a good heatsink and never got booted to desktop again. Until now in Q4. CPU is running around 132F (57C). It was running way higher in D3. MB running 95F (35C) and GPU around 53C, whatever that is in farenheit. Is my gpu running too hot? Geforce 6800GT, Athalon 2800+, 1 gig dram, Asus A7N8X. I can't play 5 minutes without getting kicked to desktop, no error messages. TIA, OTG

TIA, OTG > Well, I've still got the same mobo and CPU running on one machine, and it always has run pretty hot under a full load (both the Tbird on the KT266 and the Barton on the Nforce2 did). Those numbers seem to be about right. The only thing that ever helped as far as lockups and getting kicked back to the desktop (apart from the bigass HS and Fan, actually opening up the side of the case for airflow, and so on) was reseating the heatsink every month or so and making sure not to use too much thermal compund. I also remember that replacing my PSU with a more reliable and powerful one helped a lot with the crashes. Supposedly temps above 60C aren't unusual, but I used to always worry when they got that high during gaming. This forum always seemed to have the best info. http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/asus-vf13.html Using one of the idle-loop fixes seemed to keep it from jumping up too high too quickly even though they're mostly for the KT133 & 266 chipsets. VCool always seemed to do the best job and it was free too. It's getting hard to find, though. I'm not sure if Martin Peters even does anything with it anymore. My 6800 shoots up to 70c when gaming, no problems, supposed to go that high, I think if for some reason you were going into the 80's or 90's on your GPU, then you'd be in trouble. Is your CPU overclocked? If it isn't overclocked then 57 might be OK, if it is overclocked then you need to get the temp down. I have an XP running at 2200 MHz, it idles at 42c and knocks on the door around 50c when gaming. If it was me I'd freak out if I was running at 57, but then my CPU is overclocked by 20%. How are you getting the 57 temperature? When you check some monitoring software for highest temperatures, often they'll show "spikes" that aren't really indicative of the actual temperatures achieved under load. Check Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer after you get one of these crash to desktop and see if there's an application error. I should point out that it's happened to me too, getting dumped to the desktop. The event viewer display two error messages that are devoid of information. It's only happened to me a couple times and only playing single player -- Steve ¤»Inglo«¤ www.inglostadt.com
