Back in the day when dialup (and crappy pings, high latency) was the way 98% of us connected, most of us would choose a very easy to display model, such as the default Sarge model, and force it in-game while online. In those days, Q3 was huge and mean to our little rigs. I was the proud owner of a Geforce2 GTS card and running a very overclocked little Celeron 300a @ 450 mHz and had my face crammed into the screen of a cheep 15" Komodo CRT. Forcing player model really did help to speed things up on those lower spec machines back then. However, it's only old habit now to do that as most of us have upgraded WAY beyond any need Q3 might impose on the rig :o) And, we all had FUN! It can still be fun too. Now its just so many new games have elbowed Q3 out of the way for online playing. I don't keep up with ALL of it, no way one person could. I do play HL2 online, HL2 Deathmatch. Lotsa fun. Especially with folks you know or spend time yakkin with in the newsgroups. You might note the odd few people that pop in here and holler strange things at people you haven't seen....then suddenly they reply :) There be quite a few old [AGQx] 'ers still lurking ;) McGrandpa [AGQx] (good ol loveable me!) for instance! I'll be getting the new rig re-setup for more permanent OS install this weekend. I think I'll stick 3 hd's in it. And Q3A will definitely be running. I do miss the fun :) McG.
