[ Article reposted from alt.games.quake ] [ Author was Carrie Hornby <cho...@gpu.srv.ualberta.ca> ] [ Posted on 15 Aug 1997 00:59:46 GMT ] So apparently Zanshin has been court ordered to stop his work on a 3dfx optimized version of opengl drivers for Quake. He cant talk about it either. Course that doesnt mean the 'net cant speculate. So who's the bad guys? My first guess, niave as I am, would be some slimy, rat bastard suits at SGI. They're about the only company off hand I can think of who have vested interests in OpenGL. Except that with their recent pushes towards making OpenGL more accessible/mainstream, this wouldnt make much sense. Comments? Thoughts? (Tips via email?)

I'd guess on one of the video card manufacturers. There is no mention of any hardware companies that Zanshin was working with when he got the court order but more money would be had from a hardware manufacturer/developer then from just 3Dfx. Just think about who is working on 3Dfx and GLQuake compatable cards... these are the only people that would have anything to do with it. I don't think that Zanshin was working with SGI though because they are already working on a full set of OpenGL drivers. To have an outsider do it would be like saying the company that invented OpenGL can't do anything new with it. -- just a humble opinion Carrie Hornby wrote in article <5t0a53$c6o$3...@pulp.ucs.ualberta.ca>... > >[ Article reposted from alt.games.quake ] >[ Author was Carrie Hornby <cho...@gpu.srv.ualberta.ca> ] >[ Posted on 15 Aug 1997 00:59:46 GMT ] > >So apparently Zanshin has been court ordered to stop his work on a 3dfx >optimized version of opengl drivers for Quake. Someone *could* check the court records to find out who served papers on him. drwarner...@mindspring.com (Daniel Warner) wrote: >I know what happened! If we can find out the record of whom served him the papers than why
can't Zanshin tell us who it was? I suppose so we don't flame the company
but the deserve and it would be fun. Can anyone say AOL mail bomb?

Hm, actually I was kind of thinking of an internet ping party :) How
many people do you think could get attracted to IRC #Quake to ping
whoever's company is doing this? Hm.. 1000? 5000? 10,000? hehe..
10000 people at say 30kbaud max could put out 300,000kbaud. Thats
300Megabaud. I dont know too many sites that could take that.
Especially if they are running Windows NT. It would be really
interesting to see how long we could keep them off the internet, and see
what impact it had on their decision making.
