The first real Quake 4 screenshots I have seen yet, found them right now posted in gameprophets.de forum. Plus information, it's scans from a magazine. Uploaded them to Tom's server. This must be of interest for every Quake 2 fan. My first impression was that Raven will try to unite the fractions of Quake 2 and Quake 3 addicts with this game. Oh, and the link, of course ......... :)) ftp://65.30.181.223/quake2/grieve/images/Quake4

Especially in Quake 2, where the Single Player fans are themselfes a minority, and the coop - players a minority inside a minority .... All in all, Quake 4 will be the first really relevant game since Quake 2, including a breathtaking SP mode and an addictive, fast Multiplayermode.( Hope they make it right ) I wouldn't be surprised if they would even include a coop mode for you bunch of freaks :))) If not .... bad for you !! ;-P

I was told there are games built in Asia to rival Id's games but no one in the US talks about them because 1) you cant get them or play them here, 2) The US is too US-centric! There are gamers more nutz about gaming over there and they tend to game in groups since 1) they are a more socially oriented culture, 2) therefore there are more gaming cafes to cater to gamers and they have higher broadband speeds than we do. > an addictive, fast Multiplayermode.( Hope they make it right ) I hope they make it right. > > All in all, Quake 4 will be the first really relevant game since Quake 2, > > In what ways were Q3 and Doom3 not relevant to your thinking? Umm, I often explained my despise for Quake 3. The gameplay and the graphics suck as well, it's a Bubblegum - version of Quake, aimed for the masses. Quake 1 & 2 were for real, Quake 2 is my thing, Quake 3 is the decline of the Quake series. It was always so obvious for me that iD would never do a Quake game again .... because there is no substance in Quake 3. There is absolutely nothing relevant in Quake 3 that the Quake 2 deathmatch scene in 1998 did't have to offer. To distract you from the lack of substance and originality, they threw in tons and tons of these unnecessary shader effects and let something blink, warp, flow, change colors and so on every damn virtual meter of the maps. There is still no real graphical beauty in these maps. When I ran around in them without enemies, just to look at the stuff, I found nothing that impressed me. Maybe because it's all in bad taste, and because the Quake 3 engine sucks ..... the world it renders does just not look like a reality, different than in Quake 2. The surprising solution was, that someone else would make Quake IV :) And they MUST do it right. Let's pray they do .... > I was told there are games built in Asia to rival Id's games but no one in > the US > talks about them because 1) you cant get them or play them here, 2) The US > is too US-centric! And very fast. Like Shogo was! Umm, are you talking about first person games like the ones we discuss here, or rather fighting games like the ones from Capcom ?

It was only good for lan play. Also they never completely got it right. Even 1.31 and 1.32 are riddled with bugs. At least Q2 3.2 works near perfectly. I couldnt completely appreciate the graphics of Q3 until recently when I upgraded my system. I think it looks pretty cool but I still prefer Q2.

I am not a fan of "pure deathmatch" but Q3 was certainly an interesting direction for ID Software to explore. Perhaps ID Software thought that for all people that loved their games (since Doom anyway), all were into deathmatch. I suspect that ID Software made less money on Q3 than Q2. I am guessing here. If so, that is why Doom3 re-charts territory that Q2 explored. In any case, where does ID Software go with FPS's <slightly bored> ??? It is always the same, there are weapons and there are enemies. That is it. All else is variation, it has been done before. Nothing is new. ID Software can improve the graphics, improve the audio, but within limits, we are all sat in front of a screen with keyboard and mouse and maybe some type of joystick. I think that come the year 3000, games might be like the HoloDeck in Star Trek Next Generation, where we are 100% involved. SH

Quake3 was good for "Capture the Flag" type games from my experience. That's all I have. G.
