how to disable cheats on dedicated coop server

title sums it up. I am trying to disable cheats on my server, but it is not
working. I have put in set cheats 0 and cheats still work. What am I doing
wrong, or is it just not possible to disable cheats in coop?

You got to start the server with the option +set cheats 1. You can't change
this during runtime .
Did you forget to restart it ?

You got to start the server with the command line option +set cheats 1.
This can not be changed during runtime. It is set during startup.
You will need to restart the server.

thanks, but no. That does not work. I tried with that on the shortcut
line and also tried it with "set cheats 0" in my server.cfg file before I
posted and neither stop the cheats.

Hmm, does not seem possible. I've just started a coop server locally, with
cheats 0, and it worked as it should.

Which command line did you use to launch the server ?

quake 2 +set deathmatch 1 +set coop 1 +set cheats 0  +....      ?

Or maybe you forgot to execute the server config, in case you got all the
settings in there?

quake2 +set deathmatch 1 +exec server.cfg +....

The only config that quake 2 will execute automatically is autoexec.cfg. All
others have to be executed with the exec command.
There must be a basic thing you have forgotten. Cheats can be
disabled/enabled in coop like anywhere else.

this is my normal shortcut;
D:\Quake2\quake2.exe +set dedicated 1 +exec server.cfg

this is my server.cfg;

//Margolis co-op Standard Log 1.0
set hostname "Murgu AGQ2 co-op"
set coop 1
set skill 2
set cheats 0
set maxclients 4
set public 1
set stdlogfile 1
set allow_download 0
setmaster q2master.planetquake.com
map BASE1

I  also tried this:
D:\Quake2\quake2.exe +set dedicated 1  +set cheats 0 +exec server.cfg

If I check with gamespy3d or ASE and I look at the server settings it shows
it as 0 when I set it at 0, and 1 when I enable cheats. But both ways
cheats are still working. this is really bugging me.

I want to try from the server console, but I need to know how to restart the
game in the server console without closing out the server. Can you help
with that?

Hmm, this would launch Quake 2 with baseq2 as default game. And the
server.cfg is in baseq2 ?

Yeah, I have seen it. Blasting Strogg while flying around with noclip is
fun. They also don't shoot at you then.

No, you have to close the server to change settings, if it is a dedicated
server.

You can use "disconnect" for a listenserver, then change settings, and use
"reconnect" to restart it.
But a dedicated server has nothing else it can disconnect from :)

Well, try to put all important server options on the command line ....

D:\Quake2\quake2.exe +set dedicated 1  +set coop 1 +set cheats 0 +set skill
2 +exec server.cfg

Everything should work that way. Very strange. There must be a very basic
and perhaps hilarious error somewhere.
Something that will make you laugh when you find what it is.
But I can't tell what it could be right now.

Hmm, I've never played coop, so I wasn't sure.
I tried to run a coop server on localhost, both dedicated and listen.
Didn't work.

Tried with bat file and config, and also with frontend. Tried with several
sourceportsports, 3.20 and 3.21.

Cheats were always enabled, even if "cheats" had a value of 0.
Yeah, exactly the way you know it.

Hate to say it, but it really looks like you can't disable cheats in coop
games :P

  if (deathmatch->value && !sv_cheats->value)
  {
    gi.cprintf (ent, PRINT_HIGH, "You must run the server with '+set cheats
1' to enable this command.\n");
    return;
  }

In other words, if it's deathmatch and cheats are off, it will refuse your
"give" command. Otherwise (e.g. coop) it will honor it. The other cheats are
coded the same way.
