A PIII of the same speed will have significantly better performance in games, but then the Cel. is probably better actual value. If I were you I'd go for the C2 so you get the SSE instructions which are pretty good for use with 3d games, handy also for speech recognition and some other exotic uses. If you're getting a new motherboard tho, the Durons are WAY WAY WAY better value since they can actually be cheaper for the clock speed, overclock about as well and will just slap ANY celeron silly. The newer boards give you some pretty cool upgrade options too - you could go for a Thunderbird or whatever AMD comes up with next. PIII's have about reached their performance ceiling, but the Athlons just keep scaling up and up. Can barely get a 1Ghz PIII for all the money in the world, and you can get a 1.2GHZ Athlon TODAY, CHEAPER, with no real problems with supply. A good Duron/Athlon board m ight also let you use DDR SDRAM, so there are some very significant and good value upgrade paths for you in the near-ish future... DDR RAM is predicted to be the next big thing and cost only a little more than SDRAM. RDRAM has turned out to be the biggest crock of bolognia ever and costs 4x as much as FASTER ordinary ram, plus that company is pure evil and needs to die for the good of the world. Intel are kinda losing it, and AMD are climbing fast. They're not the cheapest rigs but they ARE the best value for money, Socket A systems (esp. with new AMD chipset). qwer...@my-deja.com wrote: > > I can't take it any more, the P166 is going to server duty and I'm > building a new system.
