Q4: Buggy and annoying...

After Doom 3, I was looking forward to this game but the bugs are so
annoying that I've just uninstalled it and given the game to a friend
(to annoy him ;-)

The squad AI frequently leaves you being blocked from your path by
members of your team - in one case this was in a doorway (with the door
half closed, showing clipping artifacts) so there was no way to progress
other than loading a previous save point. After that the problem was
always in the back of my mind "don't stand here too long in case the
dimwits block it up!"

The sound turns into static when too much is going on. This also
affected Doom 3, but other games I play such as HL2 and FC have not had
this problem.

The Tram level (this is what made me uninstall) can become impossible to
complete. I made the mistake of using the DM gun on the horde of aliens
outside the robot room that repairs the tram tracks. This was my second
attempt, as I was swarmed on the first attempt and killed. Anyway, I
noticed that there were far less enemies when I did this, but went ahead
and enabled the robot, went back to the tram and... nothing. There was
nothing left to do! No way back to my squad teammate, the tram had no
interractivity. The level was just in limbo. I could have just cheated
my way through I guess, but I'm sick of companies releasing buggy
software and charging us to test it for them.

I'm hoping HL2 aftermath will have better quality control!

Dimwit Morris kept running out and getting himself killed with his charges
or blocking my retreat when I was trying to find cover.

One feature I liked with the squad AI in HL2 was that I could point
somewhere and say "go there!" and they'd go park it for a little while
while I took care of the baddies. But there's no way to give directions in
Q4.

I'm not sure if I've seen this. I'm in a boss level following two silver
spiders and a Strog Krusty the Clown and don't know if anything comes after
that or if that's the final level.

Well, I don't know how far in the Tram level was, but I never saw any
clowns in the game ;-) I reacon that HL2:Aftermath should be a good
blast. I never played the original HL, but loved HL2 for the atmosphere
and variety. D3 had good atmosphere (played in the dark with headphones,
I defy anyone not to get scared!) and I'd say that the HL and D3 engines
are about the same in terms of realism (D3 has better lighting, but HL2
seems to render big, open-air scenes better).

I also thought that RTCW using the old Q3 engine was a good game, with
good selection of levels, sniping, zombies, nazis, all worked well. The
new RTCW with the D3 engine should look pretty damned good...

I've since been informed that I'm at the point where the game just starts
to get "interesting". I'd just finished helping shut down a coolant system
to destroy the Strogg's central communications network. My clown reference
is to the famous clown in The Simpsons, as the maniacal laugh of the
creature I'm about to battle reminds me of him.
