Well I firstly installed GLquake - then realised i dont have GL c",) -
after this i installed WinQuake 1,9. This made quake run fine and i
played it online and all (once only unfortunally *S*). then i downloaded
TF. In the installation it searces for the quake directory and found it
alright, i choose yes and it installed into c:\quake\fortress ... see i
don't know how it all works, so i just run the WinQuake.exe and expect
to get everything (which abviosly is too optimistic *S*) I havnt
downloaded any maps for fortress, and dont know which ones to get!?

Well i hope you can help me, and i hope ill find some people to play with.

to run TF with winquake you need to create a shortcut that tells quake to load
your TF directory

btw i'm kind of guessing here as i don't actually play it. but these instuctions
are how you tell quake to load an ad on game directory.

winquake -game fortress -zone 1024

use gamespy or somthing simalar to find TF games

I'd recomend you also install quakeworld, quakeworld is the internet inhansed
version of quake net play is much smoother and game directory is controlled by
the server you don't have to load anyt game directories by command line
switches.

sorry i can't realy help with what maps you need I'd imagine the basic ones
would be included with the TF package. qw will download missing maps
automaticaly if it's enabled by the admin on the qw server.
usually it works fine but it depends on the speed of your connection or how late
you've joined a game as the sever can change levels part way thu your download.
and you can't do anything (quake wize) while it's downloading .
generaly i'd recomend downloading and installing any needed maps before playing
if posible .

what video card do you have dosn't it support opengl
what's GL c",) ?

S3 from memory dosn't do opengl very well, could have changed by now
but the last s3 i looked at had problems

to get glquake and glquakeworld (glqwcl.exe) delete opengl32.dll from your quake
directory (if it's there) as it's an mini opengl driver for 3dfx based cards
only,

btw quakeworld is for online play only there is no single player
