I cannot get the original quake to start in Windows XP. I get a brief flash of a window and then it quits. I have Windows patched with all available fix, including the one that is supposed to fix what I assume is this problem. I have also tried compatiblity mode, and setting it to Windows 95. Still no luck. I have done a Google search on this and have not found any useful information. Does anyone know of a fix?

Original Quake is a DOS game, and as such you simply won't get it to run under WinXP. Download WinQuake or GLQuake and use that instead. -- DW's PSOv2 characters Sasami (Level 121 REDRIA FOnewearl) Da Wrecka (Level 118 SKYLY RAmar) Mahoro (Level 20 PURPLENUM RAcaseal)

Tried glquake and I get a message saying "This application failed to start because glide2x.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Hmmm...there is no glide2x.dll file on my quake (shareware) cd or anywhere on my WinXP computer. Any thoughts?

OK, I d/l'd glide2x.dll (which may or may not work - don't know yet). glquake is not telling me it won't run because it requires a registered version of quake. OK, so I've got a key to my shareware version of quake, but I can't figure out how to unlock quake since quake won't run on XP. This looks like a catch-22. Any ideas? I've tried running flow.exe which appears to be the thing that unlocks quake, but it gives me a divide by zero error, so it doesn't run.

GLide2x.dll is a driver that was included for 3Dfx cards, and will only work with 3Dfx cards, so there is no point in downloading it whatsoever. > glquake is not telling me it won't run because it requires a registered > version of quake. Shaggy, I have the full licensed Quake. What's the fix to get GLQuake or WinQuake to work?
