Could someone help me with a few questions. What is the approx. new
release date of Quake?? How much server power will I need just to play two
people by modem?? What will be nessecary to play large quake games over
internet servers?? (i.e. Modem speed?, ISDN?) And lastly, how do I know
what the lastest version of quaketalk is and when mine becomes outdated?

Thanks,
The IQ

The current rumors are saying April for release (oh god please let it
be).

As for server power, I don't think there are any real (i.e. hard,
factual) figures yet. I would hope that a good P90/P100 could serve a
game up to just two clients. (Hopefully three or four clients).

I would think that a 14.4 modem would just barely be sufficient and
28.8 acceptable. (Although I personally would recommend more than
that -- I'm moving in April and hope to talk the wife into ISDN. Wish
me luck :)

I believe the latest version of quaketalk is 4.00. Check out
http://www.prairienet.org/joshm/qtalk/ for the latest version and some
other info.

[Would Carmack, McGee, or Romero care to comment on the first three
items?]

Of course there are no figures. You could probably get more than
4 players going on a P/90. There arent all that many computers
faster than a P/90, and they were talking like 16 players...
see the fingerhelp file... I think it said you could run
A LOT . Besides, they said it would run better if you had
Linux.

28.8 acceptable ? Hehe.. You could easily play a 4 player game over
28.8.
Good luck finding other ISDN people to dial-up.
Hey, tell her, if we get ISDN me might as well just run a FibOp
cable right to the internet provider... :)

Next Christmas? Nobody knows for sure, but I keep hearing rumours about it
being shipped around April. Wishful thinking maybe.

Same as doom, I think.

Gee, I've been hearing that the minumum (Around 14000) will make things
jerky in big net games, therefore making you easy meat. Id has said that
one slow guy won't slow down everyone else.

Quaketalk is always outdated. It's just like that. :)
