do you have the same problems with glqwcl.exe (glquakeworld)
try deleting your autoexe.cfg and config.cfg from id1 
making a backup 1st .
 quake will generate config.cfg automatically on starting
that may clear any strange stetting that's caused it

i valgly remember somthing about a texture bug
what version have you got

tr setting glquake to match your desktop res
check your using 16bit or better windoes colours
