: Personally, I don't care whether or not I see what weapon they have.
: Tho I think itd be kinda neat to see your opponent with a big fraggin
: gun chasing after ya... but if it slows the game down any then its not
: that important.
So.. what? You don't want realism then? I want speed in a game
as much as the next guy.. but come on. With the advent of this
technology taking off into new realm of gaming experience.. I want to see
more realism as well. This would include being able to see what my
opponent is wielding, atmosphere (thicker in the distance like a good
flight sim), 640x480/16bit graphics, 44kh/3D sound for headphones or
elaborate stereo set ups, realistic physics, different environments and
characters (some surrealism as well), the ability to move realisticly
(ie look up down.. etc), interaction between characters, realistic AI
for the baddies, more players on net play, a live mic for enhanced
interactions of net play, real volume difference and effects for the
live mic based relationships between players positions to each other,
polygonal characters, guard shading, enhanced (interactive) lighting
effects, interactive (nice) characters for a help in adventures, and
of course.. more realistic mapping proceedures that we see in
Marathon, Descent, and Dark Forces. Every single one of these options
could easily be programed to be used or to be mute in play, compansating
for certain systems.
On a 486DX2/66 with every one of these options turned on .. would
probably run around 15FPM (frames per minute), perhaps less. This year,
we will see Apple and IBM (as well as others) capable of puting out complex
rendering proceedures in games that will blow your mind! The PPC chips
(ie the 604/100 and 620's) will be the ones doing this.. These will be
out later this year and in '96. I can't wait to see what these games
will look like in five years. Who knows what will be on our desktops...
200Mhz.. 300Mzh? Beyond that even?
Should be pretty cool. :)
