If coin-up arcades can be as brutal as they want, I don't see why home entertainment games has all these constrants and limitations. After all, it's up to the individual to decide whether they want something or not, it's not like Mortal Kombat is being shoved down every SNES/Sega owners' throats, so the notion that the gory parts should be censored to protect the interests of minors is a load of crap. Personally, I WILL shell out the bucks to buy a complete SNES/Sega system IF Mortal Kombat is being faithfully ported, but with all the controversy it's not likely to happen. No way am I gonna buy a watered-down version when I can play the real thing down at the local arcade. Eddie -- * "You fool!" "You bloated sack of protoplasm!" * * "You idiot!" Actually, there are no limitations on home entertainment games, at
least not imposed by the government. The reason Mortal Kombat is being
censored is that Nintendo has limitations on what they will allow on their
game systems, and Nintendo can refuse to license any game they want to for
their game systems. The Genesis version will be faithful to the coin-op.
However, I heard that, because of the controversy, Acclaim made it so that
you will need to enter a secret code to access the blood and fatalities. But
this is really no big deal, and it was not imposed by Sega. Sega proved
that they will allow gore on their system simply because the Genesis game
"Death Duel" by Razorsoft exists. The ad for this game boasts that it was
"banned only in certain European countries. However, it is still legal in
all 50 states!"
Well, I didn't intend this to be a pro-Sega, anti-Nintendo post.
I just wanted to make it clear that the only reason that the SNES version
will be censored is because Nintendo takes it apon themselves to censor any
game for their systems not suited for little kids.

Get a Genesis. The blood access code will probably be well known as
soon as the game is out.
