I've been playing Mortal Kombat on my SNES for several weeks-- and I
am amazed at the number of bugs I've found in it. I have done work
in "software quality" .. so I find this sort of thing interesting.
When I say bugs: I don't mean how the game differs from the arcade
version. (such as.. combo x doesn't work on my Nintendo)
Here are some good ones I know of (not in any particular order):
1. points for 'finishing' reptile are not added to player's score
2. (try this) if Rayden wins in two rounds, and performs his fatality,
then a marker appears near the opponent's score-- indicating he/she
won a round.
3. if you perform your 'finishing move' very quickly, the words
"FINISH HIM" remain on the screen during the move.
4. if you start sub-zero's finishing move 'far' from your opponent --
sub-zero misses with the backhand punch. (the opponent still
shatters, however)
5. Cannot enter your high score
6. If you freeze Goro try sweeping him. He remains frozen, and growls.
He loses energy with each sweep. Watch out! you can only get 3
sweeps in before he thaws out! This allows great combos: freeze,
sweep, sweep, uppercut, slide.
Also-- if Goro is *really* low on energy, then freeze him. Sweep
until he's dead. He'll remain frozen until after you hear "Sub Zero
wins"
7. Sonya's scream is the same as the other characters when she falls
into the pit.
(category 2) These may not be 'real' bugs.. but they're funny:
* many computer opponents can be swept to death
* Goro can be killed easily be back-flipping in the corner-- kicking
whenever he comes near.
* many opponents can be harpooned-uppercutted to death (if timed right)
many opponents can be frozen-uppercutted to death (if timed right)
(category 3) have not been able to reproduce .. I'm curious if others
have seen it.
* get double-flawless+fatality on pit stage. scene changes to the
pit-- then before I could fight reptile-- it switched me to the
next 'normal' opponent in the battle-plan!
Anyhow: Please post any quirks, bugs, etc. about SNES MK. I'm willing
to be the keeper of the list. Eventually, I'll send a letter to Acclaim
on behalf of alt.games.mk
Thanks
