Fighting to beat or to win

Sorry, but I forgot to include this when I originally posted my follow up.
I fight to learn. Every opponent I meet has something I want, some odd
experience waiting to be used. Even if it's a one time hit, I still want
to learn it. It's more than just countering, it's knowing that you have
your opponent right where you want him before the game even starts. It's
like saying "mate in 82" at the start of a chess game.

If you want me to choose how I play, then, like everyone else, I play by
my mood. If I'm pissed, I play to beat (by his definition). If I'm in a
good mood and my # of wins is under ten, I just play. I've noticed, if you
give an opponent a chance to win, they are more inclined to stay and let
you beat them later. If you want a large stack of wins though, there's no
other way to do it. You have to play to kill, then. Personally, I prefer
to remain off the boards, unless I find a rich string of kids to "barely"
beat. This way, it's more of a surprise when you beat someone. I'm one
of those anonymous players, or at least used to be, but I'm known too well
locally, so I visit some odd places around town and measure out the crowd,
barely checking out the players. I had someone watch how I play for about
half an hour before he actually put in a quarter. All I had to do was change
to one of my other styles.

If anyone ever comes up that I don't recognize, I will give them the second
round if I see that they're still learning. At the end, I'll tell them what
to do not to lose the same way, or else answer any questions they may have
about the game. A true teacher, must always be a student.

Question: What do you do when you're playing against some newbie ten
years old who keeps on asking, "How did you do that?" and just keeps pounding
the buttons and rattling the joystick?
