oh, I actually still have a photo of a very young you doing just that!
if it weren't for the fact that this newsgroup is 1) a family newsgroup
and 2) for textual intercourse only, I would post it here

I still have that photo too! And the rest of them... too bad the one of
you, me and Toki together is so small and blurry. Stupid non-digital
cameras, ruining the capturing of once-in-a-lifetime moments. You'll just
have to come back so we can take another one. I live with Toki now, in
Sydney, so it'll be easy. Since that was 9 years ago (madness!), shall we
meet again this time next year, for a 10 year reunion?

[Urgh, I just realised my 10 year highschool reunion is this year. That'll
be... fun? o_O]

You can practically swim here from China. What're you doing over there,
anyway?

You! Haha. Yeah, I suppose you were one of my favourite sometime-

oh fuck, just replying to this message and seeing how my newsreader
puts "snr0n is a mighty pirate" at the top of my reply makes me all
nostalgic. I still can't fathom it really is nine, almost ten years
ago that we did this medieval dancing! hehehe

> [Urgh, I just realised my 10 year highschool reunion is this year. That'll

I have this excuse that I'm in faraway and strange foreign lands. I do
wonder though whether they'll be talking about me on the upcoming
reunion at my secondary school. They probably will. Wonder what
they'll be saying though.

> You can practically swim here from China. What're you doing over there,

I'm still trying to figure that out myself. I guess it has something
to do with the fact that in a distant past I thought Asian girls look
sort of cute, with the fact that I think lingering around in one place
for too long is sort of boring and with the fact that uhm hurg.

It's not the account or newsreader setup, it is the connection. slrn
told me it could not post the message due to connection problems, but
then it posted it anyway, which I only noticed after I had created an

The bad news: this alternate reality also has Fatal Diseases in it and
it just happens to be so that when you read this post, you'll contract
Fatal Disease #487! And I have the only working antidote! Mwuahuaha...

Why would you have javascript turned off? Are you paranoid?

Headbanging, check.
Whispering, check.
Milk, not yet.
Tongue beheading, seems doable.
Head in lap, does legs behind neck count?
The rest is gibberish. But it's a slow process.

I'm not quite the paranoid android. (No, android is not the OS in
question). But I certainly dislike it when websites do things behind my
back.

I've noticed disturbing amounts of traffic when I don't do javascript,
flash and ad blocking. Especially the ability to see what other websites
you visit(ed) is disturbing. Even more so when e-mail and logins are in
play.

Then there's the whole tracking thing, I find the idea of a guy in a
raincoat following you, jotting down everything you do, rather
unpleasant IRL. So why would I accept it in the virtual world?

Since you don't always know how trustworthy a link is, whether it's on a
website, in an e-mail or from who knows what short URL service, the sane
choice seemed a blanket no to all that crap. I can always give a
temporary okay.

I tend not to use certain websites at the same time. Sites with
information that I consider private, require me to login or could cost
me money, I prefer to open in a single browser window. No other windows,
no other tabs open. I decided to do that after Google tried to merge my
Youtube account, rendering it useless.

Hurray for the Usenet not being cool and hip like twitter. This old and
obsolete technology that *doesn't* tie you down to 140 characters max
nicely flies below the radar. At least if you don't count the binaries.

Want absurd? How about a company where you could only get a new pen if
you returned your empty pen and filled out a form in triplicate. With
the empty pen. Very catch 22-y. If you could fill out the form, you
didn't need the pen, if you couldn't fill it out, you weren't eligible
to get a new pen. People who work in an environment like that tend to
wake up as a cockroach one day.

Does that happen to be in a society where people only have one pen?
One plant, one pen. While I do admit it is highly cost-effective and
good for the environment, have you ever thought of buying another pen

Cookies used to be readable by other sites. You can disable that now.
But stuff like java and flash are much more powerful tools than cookies.
The problem with whitelisting is that you exactly whitelist the sites
you trust and don't want to be misused. Like a mail provider, bank or
the company you work for. What if some new vulnerability pops up? It's
exactly the whitelisted items that are become problematic.

Again, rather safe than sorry. From what I've heard especially java and
flash can have problems in that regard. I think the chances of anything
happening are incredibly small, but with some stuff I'm just not gonna
risk it.

Well, "Mr I Had one glass for years and that was for guests, I drank

anecdote from someone that did. The policy didn't last, unsurprisingly.
I have worked at places where they were rather strict, understocked or

okays, so I read up about the possible javascript vulnerabilities and
I actually put your advice in a strawberry jar, kept it there for
several days and then released it and decided to block them
javascripts in my browser. five minutes later I ran into this problem

seems like I agree with you there, but then again I don't have java
nor flash enabled by default. just javascript. currently my browser is
set to delete cookies after one week. that's just because I somehow
seem to like it when a certain website remembers my personal

Hey! These days I do not even have any glasses. I bought one glass at
Carrefour the other day, but when I poured tea into it, the glass
broke into many pieces. So ever since, I just possess two mugs. Still,
the mugs are for guests. I drink from the bottle. Never tell the
guests about it though. I don't care about guests. They always come to

You can enable some stuff permanently, of course, with the plugin for
Firefox.

> java I do not even have on my systemHQ, flashsss is bloxd by dfeaultt

For Flash you also can turn off certain settings like auto-updating and
privacy sensitive stuff like third party info, but it makes you go to
their website via a flash app to do so.

Click right on a flash application that's running (for instance a
youtube clip) and go to general settings. Via the Adobe page you're
flashed off to you can find a way to change the settings after some clicks.

You know, somehow I actually like enabling or disabling all the flash

But I don't use Firefox because even this new version 4 is slower than
Pixel coming back to Aglami. Also, they seriously messed up the way it
looks on a platform that is not Microsoft Windows.

Auto-updating? That doesn't happen through the applications themselves
in Linux, but through your package manager. But is it true that for
some programs running on Windows you still have to rely on an update
function within the program itself, or worse, have to visit the
website of hat program from time to time just to see whether a new
version is available?

Well, I did all that, but could not really find a setting I care
about. One thing I do hate about the most recent flash player though,
is that flash movies from websites do no longer appear in your /temp
folder. Not sure how it worked in Windows, but let's say I would watch
a movie on a website, it was much more convenient to just copy the
file from /temp and then watch it using a normal media player rather
than watch it on a website with a million ads and through the flash
plugin which slurps as much CPU as the English slurp tea.

I think your skull has too many cracks in it.

The funny things is that ever since some guys stole the Olympic Torch
from some Chinese guy while running through Paris, the Chinese kind of
boycot Carrefour. Suits me fine, because whenever I go there the store
is almost empty, meaning that I don't have to deal with hundreds of
spitting, pushing, shouting and fighting Chinese!

By the way, I have a new plant!! Some Mongolian girl gave me a plant
last week. I am not really sure what kind of plant it is, but I am
happy that it does not need a lot of water, has no flowers and just
sits there in an obsolete pan.

I have willed it to look like it used to. I did the same to Windows 7,
by going all classic.

Most programs have an opt-out auto update. Often well hidden. I tend to
turn those off because they slow down your computer, eat up bandwith and
all that crap. Oh, and the obnoxious pop ups of programs that weren't
even running but have a background process that autostarts with windows,
you gotta love those. Most aren't even security related. I often turn
those off BY DELETING THE WHOLE THING. And even that doesn't always work.

iTunes tends to add on Safari browser and other stuff one doesn't want
or need and hijacks the default browser option. So I avoid that one like
the plague. Apple products aren't the only that do such things, but they
are about the best known. About every other program wants to install
search bars. Some want constant access to the internet, to refresh the
ads. Or that's what they want you to think. Who knows what they send
over the internets...

Hmmm, for downloading flash movies I use Firefox plugins. I think stuff
like Chrome has similar plugins. You can even download most Youtube
stuff as MP4's to play on your Blu-Ray player, MP4 player, cell phone or
TV with an USB port.

At least I don't need a sieve to catch my brain with.

The ancient Romans had hamburgers too. Look what happened to their
civilization.

And they regard you as a emotional, violent, but surprisingly
un-muscular westerner.

Can it sing and does it require blood to grow?
