At least there is a movie reference I understand, but did you really
have to pick such an overhyped movie?

Yes. It was overhyped. But it is just about the only reference you get that
doesn't involve wizards with goats.

I'm just looking forward to Gwoemul 2, since the first one was such a nice surprise.

The best Spanish language movie I can remember seeing was "El día de la bestia".
Love the scene where he pushes the mime. The Spanish make some weird comedies.
Kika is another one of those. I only saw the end of that one and it had me going
"Huh? What? They'd never get away with a plot like that in Hollywood."

Just don't tell others though. Imagine the reaction of normal, not
insane Dutch people when you tell them you're excited about Gwoemul.
I bet they won't even dare to ask what a Gwoemul is.

I remember I saw Kika, but I only saw the beginning. I think it's from
the same director who did Volver, Pedro Alemalemale or something. I
liked Volver more, but I am not sure whether that was because it has
boobs in it.

If they do ask, I'll just tell them it's a "gastheer" that could pass for
Godzilla's smaller cousin.

Never saw Volver. If you like movies about boobs, try Journeys with George, it's
a documentary. Amaldovar I think it is.

And to an English person you would describe it as a Lord of the Guests
that could pass for Godzilla's smaller cousin. Doesn't make any sense
at all. Or perhaps it's just me. I'm better with wizard references.

No way, I'm not going to watch a documentary about some socialist
former president of the US. What if I get infected with socialism? Is
there a vaccin already?

I'd just say "host" instead of "Lord of the Guests", unless I'd want them to
look funny at me, chase me with a butterfly net and send me to China when
caught. Dressing up as a wizard would have the same effect, judging by your

I *never* dress up as a wizard! I *am* a wizard. Most of the time I
dress just like mere mortals though. And hey, you might even like
being sent to the land of the Mandarins. It's a lot of fun here! Just
make sure you don't end up in a hospital.

Are you better off going straight to the mortuary?

Do they actually have a lot of mandarins there? I mean the fruity orange
thingies. Like small oranges. And what about the oranges? They're supposed to
originate there.

Well, I already spent some time there, in a hospital that is, and I
survived. I still don't get it though why if you want to use the
bathroom for patients, which is nothing more than a trough filled with
20 cm of excrements from other patients, they tell you to go buy your
own toilet paper in the supermarket across the street.

They have both of them, though I see a lot more mandarins than oranges
around here. It might be different in the south.

Well, motzarella offers an encrypted connection, and I doubt they
actually bother to read a little newsgroup about the Monkey Island
games. The Great Firewall of China is mostly aimed at preventing
Chinese people from accessing EVIL THINGS, rather than at foreigners
living in China.

Someone I know once tried to use a Chinese public bathroom. He became very adept
at holding it in 'till he reached his luxurious hotel.

Having to buy your own tp? Talk about pulling your own weight.

Of course you wouldn't want a nice hygienic paper filled toilet in a hospital.
There are well over a billion people that would gladly come visit the hospital's
toilet. That would only make it dirty and paperless.

It's not that bad, you just need to get used to it. I know this guy
living in China who wrote something about Chinese bathrooms in the
moon language: http://tinyurl.com/pepcwx

Dirty it is already! Paperless as well. But come to think of it, the
only place I have actually seen toilet paper over here, is in first
class restaurants such as McDonald's.

Well, they do have glasshouses here, but in winter I'm sure they
import them from the southern provinces. No stickers though. The party
put a ban on stickers because they're not communist enough.

RSS added. Now I can read more than just Youp van 't Hek.

I was actually wondering if you'd be blogging about this stuff.

The picture looked quite familiar. They used to have those one-hole-fits-all
toilets in France too. And that Czech EU piece of art did feature one of the
Eastern countries depicted as one such toilet.

Just imagine seeing people leave that toilet with a transparent plastic bag with

plunger...

It's easy to circumvent though. Don't use stickers but self adhesive labels.

Yes, though that is actually one of the most civilized toilets over
here. I'm still not sure if I should take photos of troughs or public
toilets. I actually had to use one today and boy, it was ehmm... fun.

Hey! I don't plunge other people's toilets! And you're supposed to
throw the toilet paper in a waste bin, rather than take it with you.
In the public toilets you can just throw it in, well, throw it in
between the planks and see it land in half a meter of excrements.

Yet think of all those poor children who'd have to write 橘子 on all

Ah, the foksuk I also RSS. I actually have more than 50 RSS's going. Mostly
podcasts and a few comics. That Gocomics stuff doesn't work, so no Calvin and
Hobbes. Thunderbird, Ziepod and Miro are what I use for 'em. Don't do the

Do take photos, nobody's gonna believe you without photographic evidence. I'd
stop at DNA evidence though or a live video stream. I prefer toilet humor over
toilet horror.

Graphic. Very graphic. I think I need a shower now. Luckily ours aren't
positioned over toilets for simultaneous use.

That's actually a very useful feature when you have food poisoning and
can't keep it in whilst taking your shower. All you need to do is sit
down, you can even continue washing yourself while you're at it!

I went there and it looks like an extremely nerdy website. I do not
like to be associated with the likes of them nerds!

My Chinese is far from fluent, unfortunately. I don't even know how to

No! Food usually comes out the other way when consumed. I do believe
though that the Ministry of Housing is working on a toilet extension
to remedy this problem.

Well, how about using the shower drain for that?? At the moment
it is located to the left of the actual toiler as decided by the 18th
Communist Party Toilet Delegates Meeting in 2004, but that may all
change in 2014, they might have it placed in front of the toilet!

And everyone that doesn't move the drain has to pay a fine to the capitalist
government. You're lucky they don't change the law every month or so.

The government isn't capitalist. It's socialist with Chinese
characteristics, or so they say. I guess they mean corruption.

That would mean Chinese = capitalism since corruption usually takes some form of
trade or money changing hands in exchange for a service outside of regulations.
I never thought of myself of Chinese though.

Uhh..I always associate corruption with socialism. In a completely
free market with no regulation whatsoever, corruption wouldn't exist
because there are no government officials involved that can be bribed.

That has never stopped you before. You've made an 180 on censorship since you
went to China. Coincidence? Me thinks not!

Corruption need not be limited to government officials. One can bribe a worker
of another company to get company secrets. One may hand over a wad of cash just
so someone will go away.

Shut up! Sometimes it is better to counter counter-revolutionary
thoughts by obfuscation rather than downright punishment of the
perpetrators though. The same goes for the information flow. There is
a lot of material that can be found, even by ordinary Chinese, that
can be labelled as counter-revolutionary, but there is at least 100
times as much information in favor of the government. So now all I
need to do is find somebody who is going to write a hundred-page essay
and post it here on Aglami.

That's not corruption, that's just either smart or stupid, depending
on the outcome of the attempt at bribery.

But it is what many original JISBU's were like. From the AGC FAQ:

JISBU: John Ievins Style Bugger Up. Luke writes:
"These occur when you are replying to a post with multiple
discussions contained therein. A JISBU is either when you
leave a space blank intending to write a reply to that segment
later or begin writing a reply and then decide to finish it off
after the rest of the post is written, but then forget about the spaces
and send it, unfinished, leaving unsightly gaps."
