So, if I would like to play like MI4 and GF with a joypad thingy, what
would I buy?

Also, if I would like to use it with like Prince of Persia (the new
series), would I use the same?

Please tell me.

I think the 360 controller is supposed to be quite good.

The 360 controller? You mean for the XBOX? But I want one for PCs...

Yes, but what kind of buttons would I want. Do I want those
joystick-like-thingies, and how many? Or just some more like snes-like
controler? And that sort of stuff.

I seem to remember playing it on some crappy old 4-button thing I had
lying around, and that wasn't enough for all the controls.

I still think the numpad is the best control scheme, though.

For as far as I know, joysticks are mostly used for flight simulators
and the likes. I've played point and click adventures with both and the
gamepads (the snes-ish ones) are definitely better.

Probably the best are the ones that resemble playstation-controllers.
Gamepads with all the buttons plus two analogue mini-joysticks. Then you
can decide on a game by game basis what you like best.

Most importantly: whatever you buy, go for an USB. A new PC probably
doesn't even have the old fashioned game port anymore.

If you'd like to go on the wild side and you have your old
Amiga/Atari/C64 joystick you can get kits on the internet to convert
those to USB-joysticks or get conversion cables. There probably are kits
for Nintendo, Sega or other controllers too.

I think you can get one that works on a PC (with XP). They're pretty
nice, AFAIK. Go to a computer shop and try them out, see what the
handling is like.

I have this gamepad:

The only reason I bought it was to be able to Snes games on my laptop,
and I'm happy with it. Besides that, it was also the cheapest I could

action buttons. It's exactly enough for Super Nintendo games, but I'm

I didn't call it the wild side for nothing. Some of those internet
packages require soldering. This one doesn't:
http://www.pixelspast.com/products/
Interesting name for a site. You might find their products on eBay aswell.

If you bought a converter at RadioShack, it probably only works with a
Tandy TRS80. :o)

Hmmm, we have a real Nes, Snes and Gameboy Pocket.

Although, I like the idea of using the gamepads from the SNES and NES,

Analogue controls, apparently. You can point more accurately with them.
Worked great on Playstation with Gran Turismo. Might be easier
navigating in point 'n' click adventures.

It was just a suggestion. There are cheaper options if you know how to

What's a D-pad? Also, I thought you were the one who used gamepads for
EMI and GF? If it wasn't you, and it wasn't Daffy... then who was it??

Anyway, looking at Logitech:

this one

or this one:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/gamepads/devices/288&cl=nl,nl

Meh.
I don't seem to need minijoysticks for EMI, but would it be wise to
get them anyway, for use with modern/future games (eg Prince of
Persia)?

Gripe, you're right. The EMI manual suggest 10 buttons, but no
minijoystickthingies.

I don't have the GF manual at hand, it's probably on the cd somewhere.
The same goes for Prince of Persia...

Hmmm, those things always seem a... bit silly to me...

minijoystickthingies hadn't made their way to mainstream PC use back
then. I think.

Here's a big me2. But I think it's the best option for laptop MI.

Most modern wide-screen laptops have the coveted numpad built in. At
least the big ones do.

| What's a D-pad? Also, I thought you were the one who used gamepads for
| EMI and GF? If it wasn't you, and it wasn't Daffy... then who was it??

It was me. I used the MS Sidewinder gamepad, this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sidewinder_gamepad.jpg

However, since my laptop doesn't have a gameport, I decided to buy the
one of which I gave the link. I still think the MS Sidewinder is a
better gamepad though, but I found it a bit too expensive to buy a USB-
version as well.

| Anyway, looking at Logitech:
|
| this one
| http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/gamepads/devices/301&cl=nl,nl

This is basically the same as my Thrustmaster Firestorm Digital 3, but
then better looking and more expensive (I paid only ?7). It also has two
extra buttons.

| or this one:

I actually considered buying this one as well, but in the end I decided
I didn't need the analogue thingies since I only play Super Nintendo
games on my laptop. I also read quite a few negative reviews about this
one. You're better off with the Rumblepad 2 Vibration Feedback Gamepad.
It is a bit more expensive and has vibration and all in it which you
probably don't need, but it's way more solid than the Dual Action
gamepad, which is said to break apart after a few months.

| Meh.
| I don't seem to need minijoysticks for EMI, but would it be wise to
| get them anyway, for use with modern/future games (eg Prince of
| Persia)?

Well, that's something for yourself to think about. Do at least go to a
store where they sell them so that you can have it in your hands and
decide for yourself which one feels best. At the MediaMarkt they have
quite a lot of them. And make sure your gamepad has enough buttons. I
know 8 buttons is exactly enough for Super Nintendo games, but of course
other games might need more.

coveted?
Ours has a numpad hidden in the alfanum. But I think the previous
non-wide-screen had that too.

Yeah, I just browsed some user reviews on some Danish price-index
site, and some users said it broke after a few months as well (not the
rumble one, but the one that was linked).

So I think it's a fairly easy choice. If you think you need the analog
sticks, go for the Rumblepad 2 Vibration Feedback Gamepad. If you think
you can do without them, go for the Precision Gamepad 2. Unless of
course you find one in the stores which fits much better in your hands.

Why would the non-rumble version break easier than the rumbler
version? That makes no sense. Then I'd better by the brand Reinder
posted earlier?

Also, what really is the point in the thing vibrating? I am not a girl
or anything.

Hey, if they can give a name to the Palatine uvula, then why not a D-pad?

I blame the children. They should be banned from toy stores. They
threaten the fabric of our society by disrupting daily operations in
these cornerstones of our fair country.

I don't think the rumble version is just the non-rumble with extra
gadget in it. It may actually be that the non-rumble is actually from
some other make, just re-branded to fill out the product line with a
budget option. Even if they look much the same, they may still come from
different firms and factories.

> Also, what really is the point in the thing vibrating? I am not a girl

The force rumblepack is handy in some games. Say you get hit from behind
in a fighting game, it may be easier to feel than to see this attack. It
also makes games a bit more immersive. It's worth a premium of, say, 5
euros.

So I'd say: let's get ready to rumble.

Better quality, probably.

What DG and Kasper said. If you take a close look at the photos you'll

vibrator inside, but made from entirely different material.

Oh well, Thrustmaster also is a very good brand if you ask me. Their
