playing Duke3d multiplayer with to PCs

I have 2 PCs (one w/ win98, the other win2000) that are connected directly
via their lan cards. Both PCs can see each other correctly.
How would I need to configure the game to be able to play a multi-player
game in the 2 PCs? What setup would I have to run and what would I need to
choose?

Thanks.

The last time I played Duke3D over LAN, both computers were running DOS 5.0.
It worked great. If you made a DOS boot disk or CD with sound and NIC
drivers loaded in config.sys and autoexec.bat, I am sure it would work. I
remember reading of other third party programs that may allow this in
Windows, maybe someone else will provide info.

How would configure it? Do you run setup.exe or setmain.exe? and would you
pick "Network game"?

Thanks.

I think you'll need IPX. And Setmain.exe and yes you'll want a network
game.

Hold everything! I found this new OpenGL port for Duke3D. It now has
"Experimental UDP-based multiplayer". I played the older version in Windows
and it was great. This new version should be great as well.

Thanks for you replies.
I installed IPX in Win98 (Win2000 already had it). The funny thing is that
when I run the game in both PCs, the Win98 PC knows there are two players
(it
says "Found 2 players"). But the Win2000 doesn't detect it. So I assume
that's why the game never starts and I keep getting the dots ("...") on my
screen.
And both PCs see each other.

What could it be?

Thanks.

Try running setup.exe and choosing network.

Or use JonoF's port on both machines and use DukesterX for multiplayer.
JonoF's port: http://jonof.edgenetwork.org/buildport/duke3d/
DukesterX: http://www.dukesterx.com/
