Authetic Doom multiplayer?

I'm looking to play Doom online in a fairly authentic way, staying as
close to the original multilayer as possible.

I have tried both Skulltag and Zdaemon. I currently use Zdaemon as it
seems to be a more pure experience. However I sometimes find the large
number of players that most servers have a little to0 hectic to be
enjoyable and would prefer 4 - 8 player games.

So I was wondering, are there any other fairly straightforward ways to
play Doom online, or are the above source ports my best options?

Thanks

Chocolate Doom is the closest to the original.

However there is no server browser.

Chocolate Doom or PrBoom or PrBoom Plus are quite close to the original (pre v1.9, v1.9 and post v1.9).

I run a PrBoom server sometimes.
