I am new to these games and I have just downloaded the Doom95 shareware version. It runs very well on my Windows XP machine. I also downloaded 9 extra wad files, which I guess are like extra game episodes. The Doom95 program will only run the original wad file which came with the game. When I try to run the game with any one of the optional wad files, the game refuses to run stating "you cannot -file shareware version. register". There is nothing here to tell me how to upgrade to the registered version. There is absolutely no information about this in the game or in the help files.
Can someone here help me with an upgrade please?

You can get the registered version of Doom from ID Software:
http://www.idsoftware.com/games/doom/doom-ultimate/

Or you can probably use the freeware Prboom:
http://prboom.sourceforge.net/

The shareware IWAD only contains the resources required for Doom E1.
It is unlikely the PWADs restrict themselves to those resources.

Therefore, while PrBoom won't explicitly prohibit you from running PWADs
with the shareware IWAD, it is unlikely the PWAD will work correctly.

PrBoom is only an engine. Try FreeDoom if you need a free full IWAD.

Hello again,
Honestly, I can't make any sense out of the information that got posted, but thankyou for your replies. All I know is that the Wad files will only run on a registered version, and I'm trying to find out how to accomplish this. I could not find anything on the web page, but I will look again. In the meantime, I tried to send an email to the addresses listed in both the Doom game and the Wad files, and it appears as though both email addresses are no longer valid. Well, if the file won't work, then I just won't have that option.

Hello, I did go to this web page and downloaded their zip files. I was under the belief that I was downloading the whole entire Doom program, only another version. As it turned out, what I got were additional wad files, but no Doom.exe game. I ended up sticking these wad files into my existing Doom95 program directory, and I was able to open the game with a lot more variety, but I still got the same error message with certain combinations, the program states that it is not the registered version. Still, I am able to use the extra wad files which I had originally downloaded in combination with the new free ones. Obviously, I don't have a very good understanding of the various components, and I'm still stumped on how to go about converting this into the registered version, but I guess that I really don't have to.

You need to use both Prboom and Freedoom to get the additional WAD files
to work.
