Hello All I've waited a while to play Doom III. I've upgraded my processor (2.1Gig) Celeron, 512 megs of memory. I just went out and purchased a 128 meg ATI Radeon 9200. When I load and start the game, the screen is extrememly dark. Even when I allow the game to select the proper resolution. The game box says that the minimum requirement is 64 meg Video card. I;ve got twice that. I've got the "brightness" control Inside the game set to max. Using 800X600 1024X728, etc, etc. Waay too dark to play the game.. Any insight into whats wrong and what I can do to "BRIGHTEN UP THE GAME SCREEN" ?? Thanx much..

I've been enjoying it for some time. Note that you're likely to be told that DARK is simply how the game *IS*. Not quite true. Id put some new type of lighting to work in this game and a lot of folks didn't like it. I thought it was just a game and the lighting while different, isn't so bad. I don't have a little file worked up that just gives ya the options you need. But do have a look over at upset chaps at their doom3 guide. It's a good one. http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Doom3/Doom3Guide.htm If you need more help, just holler. McG.

Doom3 is dark but not *that* dark. It makes dramatic use of light and shadow leaving lots of nooks and corners of rooms virtually pitch black. There are areas where you will simply have to use a flashlight to inspect. Even still, if you are using a monitor that runs a little dark (like mine), Doom3 will quickly look annoyingly dark. I assume your ATI drivers will let you adjust gamma (I use nVidia). Try turning up the gamma a tad via the ATI driver. -- sda_mail Scott | Yields over 30 blasts or @comcast.net Amspoker | 80 gentle honks per charge! ^ my email |

Btw, your make of gfx card doesn't (or shouldn't) have much effect on how bright a game is. It's mostly down to the monitor.
