Installed the Doom 3 3.1 patch and when I reloaded it Im prompted for
a CD key. When I put in the one I used to install the game it wont
accept it. Anybody had this issue? Anybody have a valid key?

Im also struggling to load a mod, thats why I installed the patch
first.

Maybe the patch recognises public domain (pirate) keys ;-)

Apologies, in light of your high standards of communication, you must
be a "temple of virtue", full of ethics and morals and other things
like that,,, you must be a very angry soul.

Maybe he is....he probably paid for the game. BTW, a lot of work went
into your "free" game and that work cost a lot of people time and
energy. *IF* you didn't buy the game then do the right thing so we can
have more good games.

Your momma would not be happy.

He lives in Canada; I suspect that, like the UK, everything's more expensive
there.
(Doom 3 here costs upward of $50.)

Ł17.99, and has been for a while.
Of course, none of the hardcore Doom fans would ever pay as little as that.

Doom 3 was only $29.99 - for quite a while.

The only reason it would remain high is because of price fixing, and that
only occurrs within the first few months of release.

Oh I dunno, I picked up RoE at Circuit City for $19.99 a couple weeks back
:)
Doom3, I think I paid like $50 for it when it first came out though.

It was $69.99CAD when it came out, 'cause that's the amount on the price
sticker on my copy of it. However, it's been $29.99 for a few months now.

I wonder when retailers will realise that they have to be more competetive
with online shops. 1 minute of google can save Ł12.

We are no paragons of virtue you piece of shit.
But just about everyone in the newsgroup recognises the effort ID Software
sweated on producing Doom 3.
So why don't you cough up the dosh like everyone else?

Very simple: Have not got the money?
=> Then don't play or do some legit job they gets you the dosh.
What is hard to understand about that?

And please don't think they just because _YOU_ have _NO_ morals everyone
else must be the same.

This group has one simple rule about piracy: You don't support piracy here.
Since you are new here, you obviously never seen various n00bies posting
incessant requests to download a copy of Doom, and the decision among the
regulars to adopt a standard link for replies.

If you need to, find a warez group that will support you. You won't
receive help here.

Ok, I understand. You're right about me being new to the group and to
NGs in general. I was just a bit startled (offended actually) at the
language of the replies. I hope that's not the standard for the group.

It's not the 'standard' here or in most of the named games ng's, like
alt.games.quake or alt.games.half-life; it is that for folks that DO
purchase their software it's an outright slap in the face for someone to
drop into a ng intended for the support of the software and users. MOST of
the people in these groups bought their stuff. The ones that have not are
generally not owning that they've pirated it.

There are a lot of different viewpoints about paying for software. MINE is
that if it weren't for the prospect of making some money from it, why would
someone write and publish ANY of it? Cause they just want to? Ha! There
wouldn't be very much to even run on a computer available to the gemeral
public, if that were so :) I do my rightful part. I buy what I use. All
of it. Shareware included.
There isn't anything special about that either. That is what is supposed
to be, it's expected and rightly so.

You're honest, I think. Problem is that you don't see the wrong or the
harm your path accomplishes. Most of us do. Like the OP says, I/we are
no paragons of virtue. I'd think that quite a few of us started out
thinking we could just copy it or download it FREE. And you can do that.
You will also hurt all our chances of having even better from the same ones
that were NOT recompensed by your choice.
In the end, you'll still make whatever choice you want. And we will make
ours.
