Damn this game is the shit!!!...I am getting by slowly but surely on Marine
mode and loving the hell out of it. This was my main reason for getting the
xbox and despite the fact that it may be the "trimmed down" version as some
have said, I can't see how it makes this game an less enjoyable. I love the
scares that seem to come out of damn near nowhere and the lighting and
atmosphere. I also dig the fact that you hafta toggle 'tween the flashlight
and the weapon. To me, this makes the game all the more tense as well.

So, for what its worth, what exactly is missing from my version of the game?
Am I missing much?

I don't think you're missing anything but the better graphics available
to PC users. I haven't seen any direct comparisons, but I don't see any
reason why all the game content wouldn't be there.
I've played Halo,SWKoToR1, COREFBB, DX2, and POP-SoT (like all those
acronyms :-) ), on both the XBox and PC and the only difference I found
was the XBox was lower resolution and missing directx 9 stuff, less
particle effects etc... I bet D3 XBox doesn't have the same kind of
smoke and steam and it certainly doesn't have the wavy heat haze.
I look forward to giving Doom 3 on the XBox a try, too busy right now
playing through Resurrection of Evil again.

Ive only had a quick go but the only thing I noticed was it didn't have that
first 'outside' section where you are gasping for air. I don't know if that
means all the outside bits will be missing?

I'm trying to figure out if you're saying that the game is good, or
bad. I've been wrestling for months now about getting a new rig or
buying an Xbox and playing the game until I can afford the rig I want.
I've had the bootleg for months, but with no machine to play it on,
except a friends, and he's not into gaming, much less Doom.
So I've anxiously waiting for the Xbox version, and so far, you're
the first review I've read. So, is it worth buying an Xbox to play it,
or should I wait a few months to buy the $1,500 rig I want to get to
play it in its full cinematic, horrific glory!

Oh, sorry, I should have read more carefully. So, you're saying its
passably good? I'm going to get the rig eventually anyway, but I
figured I could play it on Xbox (if it is playable) until I do, and
then replay it in all of its hidden intensity.

I appreciate your review and comments. I think I've been swayed to
order my Xbox and Doom3 for it today. But, I understand a new Xbox 360
is slated to come out in the summer. Is it worth it? Maybe the old
Xbox prices will fall even more, or the new one will run Doom3 even
better!? Do you, or anybody, have any ideas? Thanks.

Check this site http://www.doom3portal.com/ for an interview about the D3
xbox port. (I don't recall specifically which link it is on the site.)
There was some "trimming" here and there for the xbox as well as some
modifications for 2-player cooperative mode play.

I noticed that the maps on RoE seemed a tad smaller than the maps in D3
which leads me to suspect that RoE was designed with an xbox port in mind.

The new XBox will probably run Doom 3 better than most high end PCs do
now. It's also going to be expensive. Every now and then you see some
big store put the XBox on sale for $99.99, otherwise getting an XBox
plus doom 3 is going to set you back ~$200. I think its worth it, but
then again I got my XBox for free.

Assuming, of course, that it supports backwards compatibility...

I've just gone through a couple of outdoor sections, but there wasn't
any outdoor section at the start. Hope this helps! :)

Hehehe, unless your gaming rig comes with a 109cm (43in) rear-pro TV
with 5.1 surround sound, then no, you won't be playing it in anywhere
NEAR cinematic glory! ;) I love my Xbox + big TV + surround sound!

I might just wait just a little longer for the Xbox 360, to hear if it
runs Doom 3 even more cinematically like a $2,000 PC rig.
If that turns out to be the case, then even paying $400 for a newer
model Xbox might be worthwhile, as the only reason I'd even think about
buying an expensive gaming PC would be for hi-end,cinematically
more realistic gaming alone. Hardly would shell out that kind of money
just to surf the web a tad faster :) Thanks again.

get an xbox and the game. I have played both (I have both actually).
While the pc version is superior graphically (if you have a high end
machine), the xbox version is very very very good. Also, with xbox live
(with headset), the multiplayer is better (IMO) with xbox.

I highly recommend the collectors edition to get the extra videos and the
original doom 1 and 2.

Nothing that removes the yummy feel of Doom 3, just a few things here
and there to make it run a little smoother. Everything was probably
portaled a little heavier just to keep the load lighter on the hardware,
and obviously there were some modifications to suit Coop. I haven't
played, but I remember reading several articles about said trimming.

Xbox 360 Comes with WebTv?
webtv.jpg

My super-secret console-licking moles have unearthed a few more Xbox
360 gems worthy of posting. OK, actually the mole doesn't lick
consoles and really it's just one gem. Apparently, the Xbox 360 will
be sold at two price points. For $299 you will get the base system
which doesn't have a hard-drive or backwards compatibility. For
another $100 you get the system bundled with some sort of optional
add-on which will include WebTv.

Taking a page from the PSP-launch playbook, I've been told that about
80 percent of the systems initially produced will be bundled with the
add-on. So unless you feel like waiting, you'll be plunking down
nearly $400 for your Xbox 360.
