Ok, this is all garnered from comments that I've heard from Id, none of it is confirmed, and it could possibly all be false. I am serious about this though, it's not a SPISPOPD prank. Anyway... What is Quake? -A fantasy game using an engine that makes Doom look puny What new features will it include? -The ability to hit specific areas on your opponents body [ eg: Arm, leg ] -The ability to change your enviroment [ Edit while you go?? ] -Tons of other stuff, no idea what they could be The plot? -No idea, although it will most likely be in that tolkien devised world of fantasy, which John Romero of Id software hinted at before Doom was released.. Notes! -This could all be false! I take absolutely no reasonability for this! -Before you shout out Quake suggestion No. 3021, remember this, Id's games are designed to immerse you in the enviroment, that means NO LOOKING AT KEYBOARD. Using spells will probably be handled in the same way as weapons...and there will likely NOT be an inventory. All right, feel free to verify this or whatnot. While the "immersion" can be quite nice (the scenery in DOOM is quite interesting), there is a level of immersion being left out of a lot of games. No game has immersed me as much as the Ultima Underworld games -- these provided the pretty scenery AND an interesting story with interesting people that I could talk to and interact with. Wolf and DOOM and games like them are meant to provide a different type of immersion (one where you blow everything to hell and have a heck of a time doing it too!), but there is still something missing. This is not to say that I find anything missing from DOOM (except a bug-free VM system - mine dies at the most inoportune times) - It's just that there is the possibility in games of the fantasy (Tolkein) genre for much more immersion by providing more than action Action ACTION! I would hope that, if Quake doesn't provide more depth, that someone (hopefully Id) will take their kick-butt engine and make a game that takes weeks to finish (wistful memories of the great Dungeon Master...) It is possible to have both. >-- >*-----------*---------------------------*-----------------------* >| William R | E-mail: | O O Have a day | >| Lachance | ad...@FreeNet.carleton.ca | ---- | >*-----------*---------------------------*-----------------------* -- Paul Miller Software Engineer | "The opinions expressed by me do not necessarily ASDG, Inc. | reflect those of my employers." - Anonymous
