computer capable of running Doom3 at full detail?

I'm thinking about building a new computer.

What would be the minimum configuration for playing Doom 3 with everything
on at the highest resolution?

On a related note, back in the days of the voodoo 2, you could use two of
them to nearly double your frame rate. Would it be possible to do the same
thing today with modern graphic cards? Could two cheap cards equal the
performance of a top of the line card?
