In article <2giv7h$d...@midgard.mlb.dmt.csiro.au> r...@mlb.dmt.csiro.au (Remek Andrew Lipinski) writes: I think the biggest problem with porting to a MAC is the sheer lack of grunt power for the majority of machines out there. Possibly some of the high end Quaddras would keep up with the crunch demands of the game, but it would be questionnable to justify a port to such a low install base of fast machines (which are very expensive). As it is on PCs I haven't seen doom run well on anything below a 486, and having used a Quadra 950, which in my opinion runs at about the same speed as a 486DX2-66, I can't imagine how doom could be implemented for some of the low end MACs (unless the game is tailored to that platform, with maybe some tradeoffs in complexity). I don't think speed will be an issue here. Macintosh has always prided itself as a very user-friendly machine. I think waht will happen is that whenever you press the spacebar and fire, a message box will pop up and ask, "Are you sure you want to fire [OK] [Cancel]". The same for opening doors, pressing buttons and/or maybe even moving. Oh, have I mention how the player moves? Yup, you got it, it is a step-by-step discrete-distance movement, so the demand for power will be much lower. What I would like to see is Doom being ported to Suns (!) so that all the power on a Sparc10s won't go to waste. -- doug. ############################################################################### Douglas Hok-Chung Tsang h...@lems.brown.edu Box 978 Brown University Providence RI 02912-0978 (401)863-6398 *******************************************************************************
