Has anybody else noticed Diablo halting during single user play? Every once in a while, I'll get a freeze (usually when monsters are just coming onscreen or right after I've opened a trapped chest) followed by a spurt of action where everything happens too fast for me to do anything about it. I have a P-133 with an 8x cdrom drive -- I think I have more than enough machine for the task, and this jumping doesn't seem to happen during CD or disk access. Anybody out there seen this or have any clues? - dave

I get that puase you are talking about, but I think it is disk access.. Or cd... I have a P6-200 32 meg edo ram.. and 8x cd... I think I need scsi devices to make it play perfectly smooth!!! Probably not the cause of your problem, but if you had a network card in your computer when you installed dial-up networking (if that's what you use) the it added TCP/IP bindings to your ethernet card and set ip up to add DHCP for ip addressing. This will cause 4 1-second pauses separated by 1 second, then resume for 2 minutes without problem, then do it again and again and again... I guess it's not your problem but it gave me so much trouble when I started using win95 that I felt like talking about it... IF you are then THAT is the reason for the second or two that the action stops. It is caused when the CDROM drive switches from one sound track to another. The fix is simple, turn off the CD Music! Note that this is for IDE cdroms, and MAY not happen with SCSI cdroms. I've got this in multiplayer, it happens either after someone enters a level or town, or after I get mobbed by 20 or 30 guys and start ripping with the chain lightning. :) It's happened so often, unlike you, I've learned to control it. That's kinda pitiful when you think about it, but I've only got 16 megs RAM and a P100

This just started happening to me last night. I have a level 24 mag. I have 32 meg ram and a 8X cd on a pentium 75. I noticed delays of about 10 seconds of so when I went to level 5 or on level 4 in nightmare. I have everything else turned off even turned off ms office tool bar. I am playing multiplayer with the modem, but the modem is turned off. I haven't had any pauses until now on nightmare 5 & 4. I will be looking on diablo's www and the manual. Hope this info helps.? Any other ideas? SPG

Hmmm. Are you in Win95? My machine will do those 4 - 5 sequential pauses that last about a second each. Then all will be smooth for about 3 - 5 minutes until it does it all over again. It is a Win95 "problem/limitation/sacrifice" (whatever you want to call it). Any game I play is subject to this. Microsoft knows about this situation, so I have read somewhere on the internet. I did find a way to get rid of those Win95 "pauses". I bought Win NT 4.0. It runs Diablo smooth as silk. No pauses, skips, or any problems. Before getting NT, I installed Diablo on my Win95 HD. It had those "pauses" and the cd would mess up when thoses "pauses" occurred during cd access. NT fixes all that. So, there is light at the end of the tunnel. In fact, when I take the CD out of the drive I find scratch marks on it!! Go figure. David
