I think one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a news group are the Diablo cheaters trying to justify their actions. In particular the ones who claim that their actions have no negative ramifications. All I have to say to them is : "Hello , my name is Reality , have we met ?" One of the most basic elements of any RPG is a value system. This means that gold , armor , weapons and the like have great importance as a character grows and gains experience. No , I am not going to go on and analyse cheaters. This has been done to death. The point is that once all the better items in Diablo were duped and made generally available , a key element of the game was destroyed. What's done is done and it is far too late to find a solution on Battle.net. The people who claim that they cheat to help newbies are as full of it as any of the cheaters. By giving a newbie high level duped items you are not only propagating your cheating to yet another player , but you are in essence removing the fun from the game for the receiver. It's a shame really because it would be nice to have a virtual game community to go to for fun as well as to meet new people. I fear that if hacking skills continue to outweigh gaming skills as the determining factor in online game success, the concept will fail. Places like Battle.net will be left to 13 year olds playing with hacked characters and screaming mother jokes at each other while serious gamers will seek more secure services or create closed networks with Kali or similar software. All a result of cheating. So .... cheat all you like .... you paid for the game , so do what you like with it. Don't sit there however and try to justify yourself, that is ludicrous. Not only are you dishonest but you have some problem with logic as well. As far as duping making items valueless and ruining the game , this is not my opinion. It is a fact that is blatantly obvious to anyone with reasoning power. I for one resent the fact that you have ruined a potentially fun thing for so many with your thoughtlessness.

Very well put. It's very satisfying to see some reasoning going on here. Thanks. -- -------------------------------- Joseph Tsiang jts...@mit.edu http://jtsiang.mit.edu --------------------------------

I have to totally adree with you. The best thing I have found to do about it is to find a small group of friends and play Diablo with those people. Making sure that the characters used for our gaming fun are not used on Battle.Net where you can easily come accross some cheated items and not even be aware of it! I even believe that maybe you should be allowed to limit on Battle.Net the level of the characters that are allowed to join your game. If I want to start a game for levels 7-12, I should be able to create that limitation on Battle.Net. Sound like a fair deal to you??? -Marcus Trisdale jose...@iconn.net wrote in article <331f0eef....@netnews.worldnet.att.net>... > I think one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a news group > are the Diablo cheaters trying to justify their actions. Thanks to all those who took the time to reply so nicely. I just can't help but wonder what wonderful things could be accomplished if all the talent and energy directed towards cheating and hacking this game were focused in a positive direction. I suspect that untold hours were spent by people of various abilities trying to get around this patch. Probably enough to have written a new game that would be fun to play. The most disturbing thing I have read latley is on the Battle.net forum. People are already making plans on how they are going to screw up Ultima Online. Pk guilds , roaming bands of thieves and the like. They haven't even started playing the game yet and already they are trying to find a way to ruin it for others. So much for the "I only PK cause I got bored of the game" nonsense. I just can't imagine what kind of people would live just to ruin other people's fun. A very , very sad commentary on some of the vicious people out there. -jls

Pkillers, and thieves are great IMO(and I'm neither). This is a roleplaying game and they(game companies) are doing their best to make it as real as possible. Usually I create public games in Diablo just for that reason: I like the added risk of watching my back. As of yet, the only PKillers who have slain me were hacked characters, so they don't count :) >They haven't even started playing the game yet and already they are >trying to find a way to ruin it for others. The best thing to do is learn to deal with them. If I don't want your valuable items being stolen, I hang on to them(or hide them *well* in town!). If a stranger enters the game, I invite them to my level most of the time. If they want to kill me, fine... at least I can fight back(unless they take a cheap shot :) If some luser enters the game with a super-hacked char, just leave the game and take away their fun(or tell them you're on a different level and invite 'em down). > >-jls happy roleplaying daphne, lvl 40 rogue on battle.net (3 dots) scoob, lvl 17 fighter (no dots) remove "spamsucks." in my email address to mail me.

>I just can't help but wonder what wonderful things could be >accomplished if all the talent and energy directed towards cheating >and hacking this game were focused in a positive direction. Agreed, although this is certainly not restricted to on-line gaming. Think of all the programming tallent that has been wasted developing computer viruses, hacking into systems etc. Unfortunately, it's just human nature that not everyone chooses to use their God-given tallents constructively. >I suspect that untold hours were spent by people of various abilities >trying to get around this patch. So much for the "I only PK >cause I got bored of the game" nonsense. I have to disagree with you here. I agree 100% with your stand on cheating, but Pker <> Cheater necessarily. I think Pkers add an extra dimension to the game. No doubt there will be PK clans formed on Ultima, and "Hero" clans formed to battle them. Good vs. Evil, basic concept, and adds a nice touch of realism to the game. Provided it's done honestly, that is.
