Ok, here's a question for you all... All being whoever _does_ read this. I have a Matrox Millenium 2MB PCI video card. I have installed every single update you can get from both Matrox and Microsoft. I am still experiencing many many crashes. My machine crashes with almost every game I have. The list includes Mechwarrior (Mercenaries), Diablo, and a few others I don't feel like mentioning. Bottom line is, my machine crashes a LOT. This brings me to that question I had.. Is anyone else having similar problems? The machine I am using is a Pentium 90 with 32 megs RAM, a 4x CDrom, and the above listed video card. The motherboard (for what its worth to mention) is an Intel Triton. Also installed is a Sounblaster AWE32, and a 33.6k baud internal modem. All of the above items are the genuine article, not clones. The machine on the other hand, is not a brand name, it was put together a couple years back by an independent computer store. Aside from countless game problems, mostly related to directx, I have had no problems with the computer. If anyone that can shed some light on possible problems or suggestions to ease my madness, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Brian LaPointe

Someone in our IPX round just found this out, unfortunately (losing a good bow of lightning and an even more valuable crown): If you drop your items while being killed, someone casts town portal, you restart in town, go back down and want to pickup your items, clicking on items close to the portal might lead to you vanishing in the portal and going up to town, and the regarding item also vanishing, but never meterialising again. Anyone else had that? Was that bug there before 1.02? [snipped] > Unless Matrox can provide reliable drivers,I will always regret my > choice which was based on all the hype from the press!:( Well it's not something that should, IMO, present a huge problem.. AFAIK Matrox have been/are producing better DirectX supportive drivers for the Millenium - considering the card was released a long time ago - maybe even before the original GameSDK? You should find things get better, but the Millenium was never marketed as a games (read: DirectX compatible) card, but as a high resolution 2D accelerator, which is why they released the Mystique to combat the games market. Personally, I would have been happy with either (I have the Mystique) since a friend of mine has the Millenium and is running it fairly trouble-free, although he is a bit clueless about PC's in general (self-confessed, I'm not just dragging him down) and so he has neither performed any magic to get his card working nor would he know where to start.. Regards, Nick P.s. This friend of mine does not own Diablo and I don't see him regular enough for him to test his card with mine, but his other DirectX software (WinQuake, Need for Speed, Red Alert) run fine.. maybe it's more a problem to do with the implementation of DirectX in Diablo? Not saying it (ie, Blizzard) is wrong, but 'hardware independency' is only as good as the "game, API, and hardware driver" combination itself, providing more links in the chain to be susceptible to weakness, since it is easy to rely on the other components in the hierarchy being correct/accurate during development when they might not be... (yet).. At the end of the day, it is (/should be) resolvable, but only when the culprit responsible owns up and releases a fix for it.

I've got a 4 MB Millenium, and my Diablo runs without problems. I'm running Millenium BIOS 2.4 and 3.22 drivers. My DirectX is 3.0 from Microsoft's web site. Diablo ran fine before and after the upgrade. For what it's worth, I've never tried network play.

I have the Matrox Millenium 2MB PCI video card to and I am not having any problems at all with diablo...I am using the 3.22 driver and the directX that came with diablo...I would go into my device mgr and remove the display driver and then let windows redetect my video card then do a little general trouble shooting on the system...Make sure that there is nothing in the load= and run= lines in the win.ini file...check startup under programs and make sure that it is empty...next check cd rom an make sure that the supplemental cache size is set to large and it set to quad speed or higher...also do ctrl alt and del and in the close program window make sure that explorer, systray, mgactrl are the only things in that window....give this a try and see if it helps...also if you are getting the kernel32.dll error you might go download the newest version of it from Microsoft.....also make sure you are running the most current drivers for your sound card....hope this helps. -Leif Brian LaPointe <edw...@dreamscape.com> wrote in article <01bc283c$07677220$97b772ce@funhogg>... > Ok, here's a question for you all... There is an easy way to pick up items that are too close to the town portal. Just have the original caster re-cast the spell again on a different area of the room. The 1st portal will disappear and you will be able to pickup whatever items that were there. In a single player game, I was holding a sword or staff ( can't remember which ) trying to put it in my inventory as I was walking towards a portal. Unfortunately I entered the portal with the thing unequipped and out of inventory. As I entered the level the portal had been created on, the item had disappeared. Since then I always make sure I do ANY equipping or inventory shuffling away from portals and stairways while stationary. This was a few of weeks ago, pre-patch, while I was still getting my feet wet and playing single player. Since I modified my technique and havn't wanted to take a chance of losing something good ( the item was something pretty good, I think ) I havn't noticed a problem.
