Folks, If you want to experience 3-D Descent, but you don't want to spend $1000 for a VR helmet, try this... Load up Descent using "descent -VFX". When you start a new game, you'll see the screen split in two; the left image and the right image. Get a couple of small mirrors and rig them so that the left image is reflected from one mirror into your left eye, and the right image is reflected to your right eye. The mirrors must be small (about as wide as a butter knife) so that each eye sees ONLY its assigned image. Bingo! 3-D. Of course, the images will be inverted, but at least you'll get to see the enemies literally floating in space ahead of you. Plus, since Descent has no knowledge of "up and down", the fact that it's inverted is irrelevant anyway. It's quite a sight. Have fun... -John (waiting for VR helmet prices to go down...)

Someone, somewhere, makes a neat plastic doodad that goes over your screen, and is split down the middle, making two independant chambers, one covering each side of your screen. Then, at the front of it, there are two small mirrors, one in each chamber, that do just what you say. You look DOWN into this thing, like a microscope. Saw it at a VR show in San Jose... It ran about $20 or so, I believe. I don't have the info anymore, but maybe someone has been to a VR trade show lately and knows what I'm talking about? Seems like Parallax could include a command line option to split-screen, and run it upside-down, just for such jury-rigged 3D methods. John D. I've seen it! It was at a really lame VR/Cyberpunk/InfoBahn/Art thingy an ex-friend of mine hosted at a Chicago nightclub. Maybe you remember it: it was called Cyberfest, and he spammed every concievable newsgroup with adverts for what turned out to be exceedingly lame. Anyway, I saw the microscope thingy you described, but it was running a really hokey "float in 3D and find the stick person" demo. Really lost a lot, but the potential is there. Now if they would market it along with a cervical collar to avoid the terrible neck pains which seemed unavoidable, you've got a money-printing machine! Scott -- ----------------------| S.P.
