Could this be the joystick of the future?
Spacetec IMC have redesigned the game controller with games such as Doom,
DoomII, RotT, Descent, Heretic, and similar in mind. They have created
something that is totally unique.
The big question is...Will it improve your game playing skills???
Check out the GD Review for a full rundown and two, totally unbiased,
opinions. You'll find the review in the Reviews/Hardware section:

This is _not_ something new and unique, but rather a 6-axis
controller with 6 added buttons. Will it make your game better? I
think not. Right now what is the most common complaints amongst
mousers? I'll tell ya, "damnit I fell off that ledge when I meant to
turn."
With the spaceball you control nearly _all_ your movement with one
hand. This is just begging for problems during the heat of deathmatch.
I have used the SpaceBall, while it would be great for games like
descent, which are slower paced, they are not suited for serious doom
play.

Hmmm, tried turning the vertical sens right down and/or using turn keys above or near your strafe keys? Falling of small ledges can be annoying in doom but the mouse need not add to the problem. You are quite right about the spaceballs potential problem though... Dave

I tried the SBA for hours in Insane mode and it's pretty useless. Try as you might there's no way you'll be able to blast into a room, turn aim and fire at the same time. This kind of simple motion in a plane is cake with a mouse but requires a major feat of dexterity with the SBA, which will leave you kind of wobbling around while you die in a hail of bullets. > I have used the SpaceBall, while it would be great for games like >descent, which are slower paced, they are not suited for serious doom >play. Actually I would think the SBA would be better suited to doom, where that 3rd dimension is not a bother. >Donald Good | rms

It playes even better in Doom. I'll just second what Alex says here (I'm going through at trainee now, but it's the same idea. I'll also add that I read on a Doom page on the web that by going forward with the spaceball _and_ hitting the forward button you can _outrun_ rockets, plasmas, and BFG fire. I'm no Doomster but I was still impressed.
