Just wondering, would the programming of Descent support some kind of
external map maker? I know it would be a little harder than writting a
wad file for doom, but it is a little more advanced game

Gee, spot the person who hasn't been lurking before they post... :-)

No offense, but it's been pretty hard to miss everyone talking about
DEVIL (Descent Editor for Vertices... er, something. I think.) In case
you hadn't guessed, it's a Descent level editor. (Duh.) By all accounts
(well, one account, which is all I've seen posted), it's nicer to use
than many of the Doom level editors.

The files you're looking for: devil097.zip and devil097.txt (although
the .txt file is unnecessary if you already know what it is.) You'll
also need emu387 (the floating-point emulator for GO32), if your machine
doesn't have a coprocessor (ie, if you've got a 386 or 486SX.) I don't
know the exact filename for emu387, but it's reported to be on
ftp.cdrom.com in /pub/games/incoming.

  Where to find them:

   ftp.cdrom.com, /pub/games/incoming
   ftp.netcom.com, /pub/cs/csua/descent

It's been uploaded to various other sites, but they generally don't
have readable incoming directories. With luck, it should soon be
appearing in the descent directory of a site near you.

Oh, and the answer to your question is 'Yes.'
