   Parallax Guys:
   --------------

What is the best way to play two players multiplayer? Seting up a two
computers network or just connect them via null-modem?

(What has a faster transfer rate? What occupies the CPU the least?)

   Thanks.

Dave.

Thanks, Mr. Pletcher, for answering my questions. The time factor was no
problem. Since we last wrote, I found out a couple of things. First
off, that you do not use Ipx broadcast packets, but rather, directed
packets, Spx I believe. Also, by using the showaddress and gameserver
command line parameters, this allows direct hookup between server and
client players, but only on the same subnet. The main problem is to
encode the packets so that they can be DIRECTED across routers, not
broadcasted across them. If this can be solved, it would pave the way
for easier coding for TCP/IP protocols, since the directed packets then
could be packaged into TCP/IP packets, and then decoded after reception.
Of course, this could all be pure hyperbole, since I am currently drawing
off of several FAQ's and books, and not from direct programming experience.

Hope this helps. Hehe. Great game! (I think I said that already...)

Thanks to both Interplay and Parallax for setting me straight, and for
respoding so quickly.

Hopefully, we'll be seeing the release of the patch soon.

Looking forward to it!

Hey, did I mention that Descent rules?

Have you ever played network Descent, not only across routers, but
across the Internet?

You're gonna... ;-)
