Stuck on Level 3

I'm pretty new to Descent, and I'm unable to figure out how to get past the
lightning generator on level 3.  I can fly outside and get shot by lighting
all I want, but I can't get the other forcefield down.  I couldn't find
anything on Google.  Help!
